The 2023 Community Art Show at St. Andrew's offers children the chance to explore their creativity and aspiring experts to begin building their network.

No experience is needed to join in on the St. Andrew's Heritage Centre Community Art Show happening from February 11 until February 25. Artists both young and old, and every age in between, along with whatever level a person's artistic ability may be at, were able to submit their work. Submissions closed at the end of January.

"We have a ton of people who have never exhibited their art before, and this is their very first time in a show which is pretty exciting," says Madeleine Carlson, the heritage centre curator.

The show will consist of 31 artists and almost 90 pieces on display. Carlson says that this year has a more significant turnout of submissions compared to 2022, despite artists being able to submit five artworks last year.

The Community Art Show has been fortunate to have 2023 be their second year in person. In 2021, Carlson says that the heritage centre received funding through the Stay at Home Manitoba Grant which provided them with the money to purchase the equipment needed to host a virtual art exhibit throughout the pandemic.

Carlson was happy to say that they have had an audience increase each year they've hosted the Community Art Show, with positive expectations for future exhibitions.

The grand opening will take place Saturday, February 11 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and the art show will wrap up on Saturday, February 25.

There will be free refreshments, and the public will have the opportunity to talk to the artists about their work during the grand opening.

"I think it's also kind of a good reference for other emerging artists in Manitoba maybe to take a look and see that anyone can really do it. You can just get out there and submit to places and take a change and get accepted into something grassroots and community-driven like this."
