Winnipeg’s premier daytime concert and lecture series, Music N Mavens, comes to a close this Thursday after 9 wonderful weeks of music-making and presentations at the Rady JCC.

Performing hits from the 60s and 70s, sisters Elizabeth and Ashleigh Sadler – along with their band – take the Berney Theatre stage on Thursday afternoon in the last concert of the season.

“We’re excited,” says older sister Elizabeth. “We didn’t know that we were going to be the last performance of the series, and then when we saw the schedule, we were like ‘Oh! That’s pretty nice to get to end things off.’”

Recent graduates from the Desautels Faculty of Music, both Elizabeth and Ashleigh hold a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Studies from the University of Manitoba, awarded in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

They have since established themselves as versatile and busy gigging musicians in the dynamic Winnipeg music scene, performing at events hosted by Jazz Winnipeg, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra.

Growing up, the pair were surrounded by music, though say the musical gene “definitely skipped a few generations,” according to Ashleigh.

“We never had formal training until we got to university,” she says but notes they were active in a variety of musical endeavours, including band and choir.

Hear the amazing vocals and jazzy stylings of The Sadler Sisters on Thursday, March 23 to close out the 2023 Music N Maves season!
