The City of Fort Saskatchewan is once again offering up a variety of community grants to residents.
Similar to how Strathcona County operates, the city also has some funding available for residents and non-profits looking to host events or kick-start a community project.
There are two types of readily available grants in Fort Saskatchewan which are the Shape Your Community grant and the Grants to Organizations program.
The Shape Your Community grant is the more accessible of the two, offering up to $1500 to residents or groups in the community who are interested in a project, event, or initiative that has the potential to have a positive impact on the community.
"It's an opportunity for individuals in the community who might have an idea about shaping their community or building community in the area they live to apply for funding," said Jennifer Hoyer, the director of Family and Community Support Services (FCSS).
Previous recipients of this grant are wide-reaching and include things such as virtual paint nights, green spaces, and park benches.
Hoyer says that this grant can work with a broad range of things.
"We have this grant that [could help] you do a block party or that BBQ-style party, or you can do many other things," said Hoyer.
The Grants to Organizations program is open to local non-profits and affordable housing providers.
"[They can] apply for some support for their programming, initiatives, and events they have coming up in the 2024 calendar year," said Hoyer.
The amount of funding offered for this grant ranges from a case-to-case basis and can be as low as $1000 and as high as $150,000 with no hard cap.
Grant applications are set to open on May 1 with the deadline for applications being on June 15.
