Follow the number 12 south for a little over an hour, and you’ll find yourself arriving at one of the most extraordinary hidden gems of the southeast: Buffalo Point Resort.

“It's a peninsula with over seven miles of beaches,” says Marketing Manager Landon Kroeker. “It’s the only piece of Manitoba that juts out onto Lake of the Woods.”

The resort boasts miles of nature trails, a large 280-slip marina, and Lake of the Sandhills – an 18-hole golf course that was ranked in the top three best value golf courses in Canada in 2018 by Golf Advisor.

“We also have a fantastic restaurant – Fire & Water Bistro – which overlooks the bay, so you get incredible sunsets in both the summer and winter,” reveals Kroeker.

Anyone who’s been to Buffalo Point will also tell you about the wildlife, where deer can be seen daily.

“The deer are pretty tame – they'll walk right up to you and say hi. And of course there are tons of birds here, even eagles. It’s just a stunning place where you can really connect with nature while still being part of a thriving community.”

With 24 cabins on-site, the resort offers something for every nature lover and golf lover.

“Our resort centre cabins are preferred by golfers, as you can check in to golf right there and just take off in your cart.”

Lakeview and lakefront cabins are located closer to the marina, right on the water, each with its own secluded area with a picnic table and barbecue.

“We also have the lakefront luxury cottages, which are very new, built about three or four years ago. They’re beautiful private three-bedroom cabins, steps away from the beach, each with its own hot tub overlooking the water.”

Kroeker says that right now the resort is preparing for another busy summer season by hiring for all seasonal positions.

“We’re looking for line cooks, serving staff, seasonal labourers. We're also seeking an assistant golf course superintendent. And, we’re hiring retail clerks and housekeeping staff.”

There are also two full-time, year-round opportunities available right now at Buffalo Point, in maintenance management and resort centre management.

As one who lives and works at the resort, Kroeker says he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“It's a blessing to live in such a peaceful place that’s so connected to nature, and still being able to have a lot of fun at work too. It's just an absolutely breathtaking place to live and work.”

While the resort is hiring for many positions, each team is essentially a small group, which allows coworkers to get to know each other and build relationships.

“The work atmosphere is great, and we're always growing, learning, and adding new people.”

Kroeker says there are many perks to working at Buffalo Point, including great staff accommodations and staff discounts, so you’ll enjoy both your work, and your time off at the resort.

“It's off the beaten path, so you need to make it your destination. Once you get here, you’ll be amazed at its raw beauty.”
