Nolan Boychuk is the valedictorian for the class of 2023 at Archbishop Jordan Catholic School (ABJ).
Boychuk was raised in Sherwood Park, attending École Père Kenneth Kearns Catholic Elementary School, École Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School, and finally ABJ.
Boychuk said he was excited to hear that he had been declared this year's valedictorian. He gave a speech at their grad night on May 28.
"I was happy, obviously, but I was also a bit nervous about giving a speech," said Boychuk. "I prepared some jokes before, and it made me feel better. It felt good."
Boychuk won't be taking a gap year, instead, he'll be jumping right into post-secondary at the University of Alberta, where he'll be studying computer science.
"I just like the math and science side of things, and I like computers. I've heard that degree has good opportunities, so that's why I chose it."
Boychuk added that despite not having many close acquaintances in high school, everybody in his graduating class was really nice.
The last day of regular classes at ABJ is on Thursday (June 15).
