It was yet another record-breaking day for the Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue.
Despite the drizzle, many showed up at the corner of Main and Lumber to support Safe Families Canada Steinbach. Together with other donors, we raised $9415.19.
Sue Doerksen of Safe Families Canada Steinbach says the funds raised will allow them to “continue to do the work” for the community.
"We can continue to get more volunteers to surround more families,” Doerksen explains. “We can work on Safe Families Plus which helps the youth aging out of the foster care system from 18 to 25. It's just the next steps, the next stages. We can just keep growing, keep building on what's already started, and that is incredible. We are so grateful.”
Safe Families Canada Steinbach is committed to keep children safe and work with families. Many volunteers help them with their mission.
"There are all kinds of different levels of help that our volunteers do, and it's just fantastic,” she explains.
Doerksen says opportunities include meeting over coffee, donating meals, diapers and formula, opening up homes, daytime respite and more.

The Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue will return next Wednesday, July 26, from 11 AM to 1 PM or until supplies last. All proceeds will be donated to Agape House in Steinbach.
