A 30-year anniversary is always something to celebrate, but Dino’s Appliance & Mattress Centre isn’t making theirs about themselves.
Instead, owners Dean and Debbie Dubois, who opened the Portage la Prairie business back in 1993, are giving customers the chance to “Save the Taxes” and even win their purchase up to a value of $3,000. It’s their way of thanking the community for three decades of support.
“We just want to show our appreciation for all the years of trust our customers have given us,” says Dean. “We’re overwhelmed by the support we’ve always received.”
Known for their popular “Try Before You Buy” and “BedMATCH” offerings, Dean and Debbie have long understood the importance of providing a personal touch. It’s an approach that has nurtured community relationships and earned the trust of multiple generations.
“Over the past 30 years we’ve had a lot of interactions with different generations of families,” explains Dean. “Some of the grandparents are around who we dealt with 25 years ago, and now we’re dealing with their grandchildren.”
As part of GE’s all-inclusive dealer network, Dino’s is able to compete with the larger chains and will price-match any Manitoba competitor on new GE appliances. Their supply chain is only getting better, which means they’re able to keep popular, fast-moving items reliably in stock. And with “Try Before You Buy,” customers can test out ever-changing products and technology before making a commitment.
“We offer everything on household appliances from dishwashers to refrigerators, cooking products, laundry products, microwaves,” says Dean. Additionally, they have more than 15 million mattresses in Kingsdown’s BedMATCH system, ensuring each customer can find the perfect one.
Dino’s is also proud to deliver and service everything they sell, within a 100-mile radius. Should any issues arise, they have red-seal technicians on staff to make quick, expert repairs.
“We have a great team on board with us, from sales and office to service and delivery staff,” says Dean. “Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable and can help make the purchase or service experience with us an enjoyable one from start to finish.”
Reflecting on Dino’s longevity, he points to a combination of hard work and listening to what customers want. Adds Debbie: “I think a lot of it, too, is being able to understand your customers and put yourself in their shoes.”
Customers in and around Portage can drop by the store at 330 Saskatchewan Avenue West between 9am and 5pm Monday-Wednesday and Friday, and from 9am-7pm Thursday. Dean and Debbie can also be reached by calling (204) 857-5779, and items can be browsed or purchased at shopdinos.ca.
“We want to create that personal touch with you to see that you get the best choice of anything you need in your household to make your life easier,” says Dean, adding, “We’re glad we chose Portage.”
