Aside from the community members at the corner of Main and Lumber on Wednesday afternoon, there was a pickle, cupcake, hotdog and more food costumes roaming around the space.
The team at Pat Porter Meals on Wheels programs were the ones dressed for the occasion, as they were this week’s recipients of the Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue.
The final total raised for the program was $2,195.35. Audrey Harder to hear the number was “absolutely fantastic.”
“Thank you so much for supporting it. Thank you everybody who came out, all the sponsors, all the people who visited with us. Thank you, everybody,” Harder says.
Harder says the money raised will go towards purchasing groceries to keep costs down for those who need the program.
She explains the process for those interested in participating in the program.
“You order your meal, and we deliver it to you if you live in Steinbach or Grunthal. If you wanna pick it up, you can go do that, or you come and visit us and have lunch with us as well. It's $8 a full meal, including a soup or a salad. It's great, it’s healthy, it's home-cooked,” she explains, adding anyone in the community can participate in the program.
The final Taste of Summer Charity Barbecue of the summer will be on Wednesday, August 30, from 11 AM to 1 PM or until supplies last. Proceeds will be donated to Special Olympics. A minimum donation of $2 is required for a hotdog lunch, but attendees are encouraged to bring more for charity.
Thank you to our generous sponsors who make this all possible:
