Weather Advisory for RM of Portage la Prairie Thursday

Update: The weather advisory suggesting conditions favourable for the development of funnel clouds has ended Thursday evening.

Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory suggesting conditions are favourable for the development of funnel clouds in the RM of Portage la Prairie.

These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms.

3 men face charges after Selkirk robbery

Selkirk RCMP have arrested three men following a robbery in Selkirk.

The incident transpired at 4:30 p.m. on June 28 as Selkirk RCMP received a report that two males were walking into a business on Manitoba Avenue in Selkirk and filling two bags with merchandise. When confronted by employees, they threatened them with a knife. Nobody was physically injured.

Portage la Prairie School Division releases upcoming By-Election details

The Portage la Prairie School Division has announced details for an upcoming By-Election.

According to the he division, the nomination process will begin on August 7, and the election will take place on September 18, 2024.

The By-Election will fill the trustee seat (Ward 3) left by Yvette Cuthbert, who bid farewell to the school board in May.

UPDATE: RCMP locate two missing youths from Neepawa

The Manitoba RCMP are reporting that the two missing youths from Neepawa/Minnedosa have been safely located.________________________________________________________________________

Neepawa RCMP were notified of two missing teens on Tuesday, June 18, at roughly 6:15 p.m. 

14-year-old Henry Gault is described as 6 feet tall and 180 lbs, with long hair in a ponytail. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie with white art on the front and sleeves, black sweatpants, tan timberland boots and a navy/black baseball cap. 

Rainwatchers report tornadoes, hail and heavy rain on Wednesday

In what could be described as a severe weather outbreak, multiple confirmed tornadoes were spotted Wednesday night as parts of Southcentral Manitoba were hammered by very strong thunderstorms.

"As of Thursday morning, based on videos and photos, storm chasers caught tornadoes on the ground near Baldur, St. Alphonse, west of Swan Lake and near Darlingford," explained CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. "The first twister was spotted northeast of Baldur between 6 and 6:15 p.m., with the additional tornadoes following afterward."

Rainwatchers report wet end to weekend, with more rain coming this week

The pattern of a short amount of sunshine followed by showers continued over the weekend as June arrived. While Saturday was dry for the most part, Sunday brought another round of showers and some severe thunderstorm warnings were issued in the region in the afternoon as storms rolled through the Central Plains and Pembina Valley.

RCMP looking for thief using stolen debit card and pickup in Carman

Pembina Valley RCMP is looking for your help to identify a man suspected of entering the Carman Co-op gas bar on May 24 and using a stolen debit card to make a purchase. It happened at 9:22 a.m.

The debit card had been stolen from a break-and-enter that occurred earlier that same morning at a home in the RM of Dufferin.

He pulled into the gas bar driving a red-coloured Ford F150 pickup truck which had been reported stolen from a house in the RM of Wallace-Woodworth on May 13. The truck was later found at a business in Carman on May 29.

Dakota Plains repeat offender arrested twice and released to commit third crime over 4 days

Manitoba's catch-and-release program was quite visible in the last couple of weeks in the Portage area involving a repeat offender from Dakota Plains First Nation.

Monday, May 20th, saw the RCMP receive the report of a robbery at a store in the 2200 block of Saskatchewan Avenue West. When police arrived, the suspect was running along an open field nearby. They caught up to the suspect and arrested Jacob Smoke, 23, of Dakota Plains First Nation. He was held and appeared in court the following day charged with Robbery.

Emergency services attend person laying in grass at west-end of Portage

Before 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 30, RCMP were on the scene at the west end of Portage on the Trans-Canada attending to a person lying in the grass on the north side of the roadway with a backpack. EMS was there at about 11:00. Paramedics were seen attending to the person for several minutes before the individual was lifted onto a stretcher. 

The person was placed on a stretcher and transported to hospital.

North Norfolk's Boil Water Advisory lifted on Wednesday

The Boil Water Advisory in the municipality of North Norfolk has been lifted as of 4 p.m. Wednesday. 

The precautionary advisory was put in place due to a major waterline break. That break has now been repaired. 

Last week, there was a separate Boil Water Advisory for Austin residents exclusively, that notice has also been lifted.
