Portage RCMP respond to an individual being threatened with a weapon

Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of someone being threatened with a weapon last week in the 2400 block of Saskatchewan Avenue West. 

Officers arrived on the scene in the afternoon of June 1st, but the suspects had already left the area. 

After a short search, officers located the suspects behind some buildings in the 2500 block of Saskatchewan Avenue West.  

Headingley RCMP arrest man with a weapon at a business along the Trans-Canada 

Headingley RCMP have arrested an Ontario man after he made quite the scene at a business on the Trans-Canada Highway in the RM of Headingley.

On June 1, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Headingley RCMP received a report of a man with a knife at a business on Highway 1 in the RM of Headingley. The man was reportedly smashing things and dangerously brandishing the weapon.

When officers arrived on the scene, they immediately cleared the premises of all civilians. Officers then attempted to speak to the man, but he was highly agitated and had a large fixed blade knife.

Portage RCMP issue tickets for unsafe quad riding 

Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a report of a quad driving erratically last weekend in the city.

It was just after 1 p.m. on May 28 when Portage RCMP was put on notice of the incident near 18th street NW.

An officer located the suspect vehicle at around 4 p.m. with two adult men on it.

A 24-year-old man and 28-year-old man, both from Portage la Prairie, were issued tickets for not wearing helmets.

The quad was pushed to a nearby residence.

Seneca street closes for the next three weeks 

The City of Portage la Prairie is reporting that Seneca Street from Bridge Road to Webster Avenue will be closed for the foreseeable future due to wastewater construction.

The closure took place today, May 24 and will remain in effect for approximately three weeks, with only local traffic being permitted until completion. 

Portage RCMP recover a stolen vehicle in Sandy Bay 

Portage la Prairie RCMP are investigating a situation where a vehicle was stolen in the RM of Portage. 

On May 12, RCMP received a report that a vehicle was stolen from a field near road 71 North. 

The 2015 black Dodge Ram 2500 had been parked in the field overnight, and when the owner returned, the vehicle was gone.  

Later that day, that vehicle was located at an address in the 100 block of Main Road in Sandy Bay First Nation.  

The RCMP notes that this investigation is ongoing. 

Suspects flee on an ATV following the theft of thousands of dollars in copper wire

Treherne RCMP are looking for answers after an abundance of copper wire was stolen from the community.

On May 10th, Treherne RCMP received a report of copper wire being stolen in the RM of North Norfolk.

Several thousands of dollars of copper wire were removed from an irrigation system being installed.

According to the police report, the suspects used an ATV in the getaway and were travelling north of 53 N and east of Highway 242.

Two Youths from Long Plain facing Theft charges

Portage la Prairie RCMP has pressed charges against two Long Plain First Nation youth.

Just before 1:00 am on May 2, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report that a business in the 500 block of Saskatchewan Avenue West had been broken into.

Officers arrived on the scene, located and arrested one youth, while another youth fled the area.

Police were able to confirm the identity of the second youth involved, who later turned himself in.

Both youths from Long Plain First Nation face charges of Breaking and Entering and Theft Under $5000.
