With temperatures still hovering at and above seasonal norms, you may wonder when we will see any kind of lasting snow in the area.

Natalie Hasell, a Warning Preparedness Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, notes that this is an on-going trend throughout the fall months.

The recent talks with the federal environment committee regarding Jasper National Park and the massive fire this summer. Dan Mazier, Member of Parliament for Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa, says that what has come out of the hearing regarding the fire has him very concerned about the lack of communication from Parks Canada. 

With issues this summer coming to light over zebra mussels in Riding Mountain National Park, Mazier says the government still doesn't seem to have answers to how the issue started.

The Viterra Men's Provincial Curling Championship is reaching a major milestone when the championship comes to Stride Place in early 2025. It will be 100 years that the tournament has been around, and Dean Moxham shares why that's a big deal.

"We're the first province in Canada to reach 100 years of men's provincial championships," Moxham notes. "We've always been at the forefront of winning national championships, and there's a strong community background for curling here."

Moxham adds that there could be a tough group trying to reach the provincial championship.

Hockey Canada's National Women's Team September Camp wrapped up Sunday in Thorold, Ontario. 

Five Manitoban's were invited to camp including defenders Jocelyne Larocque of Ste. Anne and Ashton Bell of Deloraine along with goaltenders Raygan Kirk of Ste. Anne, Kristen Campbell of Brandon and Elm Creek's Corinne Schroeder.

Schroeder says it's quite an opportunity to attend the national camp, her second consecutive invite.

The Canadian National Women's Hockey Camp ran from September 9-15 with several invites from the Province of Manitoba. Defenceman Jocelyne Larocque and Goaltender Raygan Kirk are in attendance from Ste.

Manitoba RCMP are encouraging the public to do what they can to prevent property theft. 

Media Relations Officer Tara Seel says property theft is a crime that impacts a lot of people every year. 

"People are very affected by property crime," she says. "It feels like a very personal crime to have your space invaded by someone who's taking your belongings, right? So, I can certainly appreciate how people want to look to better protect their properties."

Seel notes there are a lot of tips to help prevent the loss of your property.

The federal Liberal government shared its plans for the budget recently, and Portage-Lisgar Conservative MP, Branden Leslie, provided his thoughts on the issues presented.

Leslie shared that he believes the budget leaves families in his riding little, if any, relief from the current rise in costs of housing, food and fuel.

The Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) was part of an event last week regarding foreign direct investment, and its benefits to the area.

AMM President Kam Blight shared what he thought was the benefit of the meeting.

"There was good attendance, considering the weather we had. It was a very informative session, and I think the individuals that were in attendance were able to walk away with a lot of information and contacts and direction moving forward in attracting foreign direct investment."

Hockey was always the goal for Corinne Schroeder - but it wasn't always a possibility to make it a career.

Schroeder burst onto the professional women's hockey scene in the Professional Hockey Federation (PHF), playing for the Boston Pride and finishing her first pro season with a record of 19-1-0, 7 shutouts and setting PHF records in several other categories.

Unfortunately, after just one season, the PHF folded, leaving many woman hockey players in limbo, Schroeder being one of them.
