Estevan United Way reflects on record-breaking year ahead of AGM
The Estevan United Way is celebrating a year of generosity as they prepare for their Annual General Meeting on March 26. The 2024 telethon saw the community rally together to raise $380,676, the highest amount in the organization's history at the time of sign-off. And the donations didn’t stop there.
“Every year, it seems to get tougher for a lot of people, but despite that, they continue to give,” said United Way President Mark Pettitt. “This year, we set a record—and when I say ‘we,’ I mean the whole community.”
Estevan to shine green in March for Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month
The Estevan City Council has approved a proclamation recognizing March as Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month and March 25, 2025, as Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day.
During the council meeting, a representative requested that the city officially recognize the awareness campaign by lighting City Hall and the water tower in green throughout March. Additionally, the proclamation will be read at the March 24, 2025, council meeting, as March 25 falls outside the regular meeting schedule.
EPS arrests man for multiple breaches of conditions
UPDATE: The Estevan Police Service confirmed Saturday that they have located J.J. Poitras after multiple breaches of his Conditional Sentence Order.
Poitras was arrested after a warrant was executed on a residence in the north end of the city. Police said he was taken into custody without incident. They thanked the community's help in finding him. Poitras will appear in the Estevan Provincial Court today.
Former Vibank educational assistant found guilty in sexual exploitation case
Former educational assistant Stacey Duke has been found guilty on six counts of sexual exploitation.
Duke was found guilty of two counts of exploiting teenagers for a sexual purpose, two counts of making explicit material available, and two counts of luring a child. The decision was made this morning at Court of Kings Bench in Regina.
The offences occurred in 2022 when Duke was employed as an educational assistant at Vibank Regional School. Both victims were 17 years old at the time of the offence.

Help Cecilia "Fireball" McCaskill roll her way to the world stage
Cecilia "Fireball" McCaskill, the Estevan Junior Coaler Rollers skater has been selected to represent Team Canada at the Junior Roller Derby World Cup in Brisbane, Australia, in July 2025. After a rigorous tryout process in Lethbridge, AB, and Chilliwack, BC, McCaskill secured her spot on the national roster. It’s an achievement she doesn’t take lightly.
“It means so much to me,” she said. “I’m the only one representing Saskatchewan, and I feel even more honoured for that.”

The Souris Valley Museum is offering a unique opportunity to step into the shoes of a World War I pilot with the ACE Academy Flight Experience. This interactive flight simulator, part of a travelling exhibit, is set up at the museum and will be available for visitors until May 16.
Stoughton man arrested for 2023 break-and-enter: Carlyle RCMP
On Monday morning, Carlyle RCMP arrested 32-year-old Trent Raynard in Stoughton in relation to a break-and-enter at a gas plant in Kisbey in November 2023.
He appeared in Weyburn Provincial Court yesterday. No further details were released.
Raynard is alleged to have been a part of a break-and-enter of a gas plant with 25-year-old Brianna Paul from Stoughton. After executing a search warrant in Arcola, police were able to recover stolen goods, including a camper trailer, tools, and electronics.
