Active cases of COVID-19 in Grande Prairie now under 50

In the City of Grande Prairie, there are 45 active cases of COVID-19, as of today (June 15), with 3849 people fully recovered from the virus.

The County of Grande Prairie sits at 29 active cases, and a total of 1370 recoveries.

Provincially, Alberta reported 127 new cases from 4,476 tests completed, and our positivity rate is about 2.9 per cent. Right now, 2,804 cases are active in the province. The recovered total in Alberta has reached 225,627. 

There’s 271 people in the hospital with the virus, with 68 of these in intensive care.

First shot vaccinations just shy of the 70 per cent benchmark

Alberta's first dose vaccination rate sits at 69.4 per cent on Tuesday, June 15. The province is just shy of its 70 per cent benchmark for moving to Stage 3 of Open for Summer.

As well, uptake in second dose vaccinations is rising and there is now 22 per cent of residents fully immunized against COVID-19. 

The rising number of vaccinations is being met with lower COVID-19 numbers.

UPDATE: Winnipeg Blue Bomber tickets on sale

The Winnipeg Blue Bomber will take the field for the first time in almost two years, facing off against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

On Monday morning, the Canadian Football League (CFL) announced this year's season was going ahead, starting on August 5. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will host the Tiger-Cats in the first game of the season at home.

June 15: 3 new COVID-19 cases reported

The Northwestern Health Unit has announced three new cases of COVID-19 in its catchment area today. 

All three have been discovered in the Rainy River District and follow up with the persons involved and their contacts has started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for these cases will be contacted directly.

There are currently seven active cases in the region. Three in Kenora, three in Rainy River and one in Dryden/Red Lake.

Open for Summer million dollar vaccination lottery details announced

Officials provided details on the Open for Summer vaccination lottery which will provide three lucky winners with one million dollars each.

To date, more than 68.7 per cent of eligible Albertans have received their first dose, including 20.2 per cent who are fully vaccinated with two doses.
