Manitoba sees 79 new COVID cases Wednesday

The Prairie Mountain and Interlake-Eastern health regions continue to see low rates of new daily COVID-19 cases.

There are 79 new COVID-19 cases in Manitoba, bringing the total number of cases to 61,796. Of the new cases, 52 people are not vaccinated, seven are partially vaccinated, and 20 are fully vaccinated.

New cases by health region include:

  • 25 in Southern Health Sante Sud
  • 24 in Northern
  • 16 in Winnipeg
  • seven in Prairie Mountain
  • seven in Interlake-Eastern

 

Slight increase in calls for service and crime, Kenora OPP report shows

The Kenora OPP presented their summer report at the Police Services Board Meeting last month and it showed a slight increase in calls for service and crime.

The report was for crime and calls for service data from the summer months of June, July, and August, and are compared to the same months of last year.

In June officers attended 1504 calls for service, in July they rose by 149 to 1653, and finally rose again in August by 90 calls to 1743.

October 13: One new COVID-19 case found

The Northwestern Health Unit has confirmed one new positive COVID-19 test result in the region. 

The confirmed case was discovered in the Sioux Lookout Health Region. 

Follow up with the person involved and their contacts has started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for this case will be contacted directly.

The NWHU is also reporting a case from the Rainy River Health Region has been removed and assigned to a different health unit. 

There are two active cases connected to the NWHU catchment area. 

Alberta launches app to scan COVID-19 vaccine QR code

Premier Jason Kenney took to the podium yesterday, to share developments coming out of the Thanksgiving long weekend. He says that there's been an increase in vaccinations provincially.

"Alberta is doing good work to close in on the national vaccination average with more than 85% of eligible Albertans having received at least the first dose," says Kenney.
"Altogether, more than 3.2 million Albertans have received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine." 

U.S.A. border to reopen to Canadians for non-essential travel

A congressman from New York state says the United States plans to reopen its land border to vaccinated Canadians in November.

In a statement, Rep. Brian Higgins says proof of vaccination will be required for Canadians to enter.

He did not give a specific date, but he said further details will be announced Wednesday, by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in coordination with the government's health agencies.

Province lifts capacity limits in some settings

The Ontario government announced on Friday (October 8, 2021) they will cautiously be lifting capacity limits on certain indoor and outdoor settings where proof of vaccination is required. In addition, outdoor settings that have a capacity below 20,000 people.

The removal of these limits came into effect on October 9, 2021, at 12:01 a.m.

Following the announcement, Dr.Kit Young Hoon Medical Officer of Health for the Northwestern Health Unit spoke on the province's decision.

Active Cases of COVID-19 in Grande Prairie drop below 400

As of October 11, 2021 the City of Grande Prairie has 383 active cases of COVID-19, and the County of Grande Prairie has 146 cases.

Cases of COVID-19 across the rest of the province sit at 15,295 active cases. 

Hospitalizations are currently at 1,053, and a total of 242 Albertans are in intensive care receiving treatment. 

Proof of vaccination QR code and scanner now available
