Thursday’s Saskatchewan wildfire update
In Thursday’s wildfire update, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) says there are 13 communities currently under an evacuation order, affecting approximately 3,200 people being forced from their homes.
The SPSA adds that the number of values impacted by wildfires this year currently stands at 2,160 with two additional values in the last two weeks.
The majority of the losses are from the Denare Beach and East Trout Lake areas.
George Gordon First Nation member among 21 recipients of King Charles III Coronation Medals
King Charles III Coronation Medals were presented in Saskatchewan for the first time Monday.
The inaugural provincial presentation of the medals was hosted by Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty on the first anniversary of His Majesty’s Coronation which is May 6.
Twenty-one individuals were awarded medals at this first medal ceremony, including former premiers and lieutenant governors, environmental conservationists, veterans, artists, and military and police officers. Among them was Herman Blind of Punnichy and George Gordon First Nation, Veteran and Former Aide de Camp.

Provincial government increases funding to develop skilled trades in Saskatchewan
The Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certificate Commission (SATCC) has had their funding from the provincial government boosted by $1 million.
The added funds to the SATCC is designed to increase the capacity for the development of skilled trades in Saskatchewan, bringing the total investment to $22.4 million. In a news release, the provincial government says Saskatchewan’s apprenticeship system is tied closely to employer demand, and as the economy grows, so too does the demand for skilled tradespeople.
