Multiple fires, possible arson, reported in Kenora
Officers with the Kenora OPP and the Kenora Fire and Emergency Service are investigating a number of possible arson incidents which took place throughout the community last night.
Reported fires include a newspaper box, a crossing guard station, a dumpster, a tree and a pick-up truck, with more possible fires still to be found.
Fire Chief: Hungry Pug ‘a total loss’, investigation underway
A local restaurant and a few apartment buildings above it have burnt down in Kenora, leaving now another space to fill in the downtown core.
“The building’s been heavily damaged. It’s basically a total loss at this point,” said Kenora Fire Chief Kent Readman, of this morning’s blaze. “There was the Hungry Pug, and a few of the apartments as well.”
Emergency responders with the OPP, Kenora Fire and Emergency Service and Northwest EMS remain on scene at the Hungry Pug Cafe building at 301 Second Street South, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
Community shows love for The Hungry Pug through a GoFundMe
In the wake of this morning’s devastating fire, the community has already raised significant funds for a local business.
In the early hours of June 28, fire and emergency service crews responded to the scene of a fire at Second St. S and Matheson in downtown Kenora.
The block was home to The Hungry Pug, a local favourite and fantastic breakfast spot.

Fire crews are still on the scene of Second St. S and Matheson in downtown Kenora.
The call came in around 2:00 a.m. and there are no reports on injuries.
Matheson is closed between Third St. South and Second St. S.

Canada's contribution comes as G7 leaders committed to phase out or ban the import of Russian coal and oil in response to that country's war with Ukraine and the ensuing energy crisis sparked by the invasion.
Trudeau said Canada remains determined to support Ukraine as it defends its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Northern Harbour dominated Bobs Burgers 32 to 8 last night in Women’s Slo Pitch Action, with home-runs from Nicole Longe and Megan Derouard.
The Toronto Blue Jays look to take sole possession of second place in the American League East as they host the Boston Red Sox tonight at Rogers Centre. The Jays trail the Sox by half a game.

Early morning fire downtown
Kenora Fire and Emergency Services are at the scene of a fire on Mathewson Street in downtown.
The call came in approximately 2:07am. OPP, fire and ambulance responded to the call.
"We're asking people to stay away from the area so fire crews can continue their work," said OPP Inspector Jeff Duggan.
"The cause of the fire is still under investigation. We have contacted the Ontario Fire Marshall's office and we're also asking anyone with information to contact the OPP," Duggan added.
Rickford excited to continue working for the Kenora-Rainy River Riding
Rickford is “very happy and very humbled” with his modified role in Ford’s new Cabinet.
Greg Rickford, MPP for the Kenora-Rainy River district was named to Premier Doug Ford’s Cabinet on June 24, 2022, after the riding re-elected him just weeks prior.
Rickford will once again serve as Ontario’s Minister of Northern Development, as well as the Minister of Indigenous Affairs.
