Ministry puts out two-day fire north of Kenora

Crews with the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry joined firefighters from Pellatt to put out an over 4-hectare fire over the weekend near Kenora.

Kenora Fire #2 was reported late Friday afternoon near Ripple Lake, about 15 km northwest of Kenora. Ministry crews responded alongside firefighters from Pellatt United, as well as an air attack crew with a bird dog aircraft and two waterbombers.

Fire Information Officer Chris Marchand says the fire was eventually put out Sunday at a final size of 4.3 hectares.

"Flag war" with Denmark over tiny Arctic island set to end peacefully with deal

A deal has been reached settling a dispute with Denmark over a 1.3-square-kilometre island in the Arctic and is expected to be signed today, according to a government minister. 

Dan Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs, confirmed Monday that there will be an "official signing" of the accord over Hans Island on Tuesday.

The barren rock has been the subject of decades of diplomatic disputes between the two nations, as it sits in the territorial waters of both. 

Myrtle Ave closed in Dryden

Drivers in Dryden may expect delays today as City crews complete repairs.

Myrtle Ave from Government St to Florence St will be closed to vehicular traffic on Monday June 13, 2022 from 7:30am to 4:00pm.

This closure is necessary to complete repairs to the water distribution system. Government St will remain open to through traffic however please use extra caution within the construction zone. To ensure the construction zone remains safe, please anticipate short delays and construction workers.

Investigation underway after train derailment near Caddy Lake

A CP intermodal train derailed west of the Manitoba/Ontario border over the weekend.

It happened at around 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the train derailment near Caddy Lake.

Canadian Pacific Railway reports that no dangerous goods were involved, and that they had mobilized teams to respond to the site and handle recovery operations.

In a statement issued, the rail company says there were no injuries.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau again tests positive for COVID-19

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has tested positive for COVID-19 for a second time.

"I feel OK, but that’s because I got my shots," Trudeau said Monday on Twitter.

"So, if you haven’t, get vaccinated — and if you can, get boosted. Let’s protect our health-care system, each other, and ourselves."

Trudeau said he will be following public health guidelines and isolating.

He was scheduled to appear at a garden party for Liberal party donors in Ottawa on Monday evening.
