High water levels continue to cause issues across the district for both residents and business owners.

Owner of Kenora’s Northern Harbour on Lake of the Woods, Gary Hall, explains what he’s dealing with at his marina on Northern Harbour Road, near Longbow Lake.

“What we’re seeing is that levels are up from 2014. Our gas dock and area where we use our boat lift is 12” to 15” under the water right now. It’s Mother Nature at her best. We’re going to try to sandbag around them to get the [fuel pumps] working again. But we may not be able to. We’re going to try.”

Gas prices have spiked once again, setting a new all-time record.

A number of service stations in Kenora are reporting between 210.9 and 212.9 per litre for regular gasoline.

This is an increase of seven to nine cents per litre since yesterday (Wednesday, June 1, 2022).

Two Dryden residents are facing charges following a drug bust. 

On May 31, members of the Dryden Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine (K-9) with assistance from Treaty 3 Police Service (T3PS) and Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) executed a search warrant on an Earl Avenue residence in the City of Dryden.

Northwestern Ontario residents will be heading to the polls to elect our local and provincial leaders today through the 2022 Provincial Election.

Ontarians have between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. to cast a ballot. Voters must be 18-years-old, a Canadian citizen and resident of Ontario, and you must be on Elections Ontario’s voters list. Residents are asked to bring their Voter Information Card they received in the mail along with a piece of photo identification.

In Casey's Women's soccer league, the Jarnel Cranes defeated the Sultana Gold Diggers 1-0, while the Pizzacats took down Dufresne’s 1-0.

In Kenora Slo pitch on the men's side, Brewco "brewed" the Wolfpack 42-8. Meanwhile, the CarStar Rockies rocked the Lakeside Dental Gators 31-5.

This past weekend 15 Kenora Swimming Sharks made their way to Thunder Bay to participate in the Thunder Bay Thunderbolts’ 50th anniversary May Invitational.

The arrival of June marks the start of National Pride Month around the country and Kenora Pride kicked off the festivities by raising the Treaty 3 Pride flag.  

2SLGBTQ+ people and allies gathered around Kenora City Hall as remarks were made by Kenora Pride Chair, Andrea Campbell, along with a message from Mayor Dan Reynard which was delivered by City Councillor Graham Chaze.  

The summer season is nearly here and with it - comes tiny little pests like ticks.

Residents are reminded to take the necessary precautions for themselves and pets when spending time outdoors to prevent tick bites and reduce the risk of Lyme disease.

Lyme disease is a potentially serious infection that comes from being bitten by an infected blacklegged tick. Infected ticks can be found almost anywhere in Ontario, particularly in wooded areas or areas with tall grasses and bushes, including city gardens and parks.

It's been another above-average month in terms of rainfall and precipitation in the Kenora area.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Peter Kimbell says May's average rainfall in the Kenora area is usually about 80 mm, but we almost doubled that this year with 156 mm.

“The total rainfall at the Kenora Airport for the month of may was 156.5 mm. It was a very wet month, but not a record, however. They recorded 207 mm back in 2007. A lot of rain this month. Double the normal, but shy of the record.”

Tomorrow is the day that Kiiwetinoong residents will head to the polls to elect their next provincial leaders, here are the candidate choices for the riding.
