Hwy 105 to Red Lake closed off again
It didn't take long for access to Red Lake to be closed off once again.
Due to flooding, Highway 105 from Vermilion Bay to Highway 609 is fully closed due to water all over the road. Drivers are asked to avoid the area. The highway is fully closed also 20 kilometers south of Red Lake due to the washout.
After being closed for over two days the Municipality of Red Lake and the Ministry of Transportation confirmed on Monday night (May 9, 2022) that Highway 105 at Caribou Creek had been repaired and is re-opened. The highway was fully open for only a couple of hours.
Some cities will not halve child-care fees by end of year, study finds
The federal government’s highly touted national child-care program aims to make care more affordable for parents, but a new study suggests just how much fees are reduced will depend on where they live.
The study by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives says because provinces and territories are taking different approaches to try to meet the government’s initial fee reduction targets, some might miss them.

Highway 17 has been closed between Rhyner's Road and 83 Road due to a washout.

Highway 17 east of Vermilion Bay remains open, but is underwater.
Water from Eagle River spilled its banks earlier this month and has been slowly encroaching on the highway.
As of 3:35 p.m., Highway 17 remains open according to the Ministry of Transportation.
A number of roadways across the region are either closed or washed out.

GasBuddy says there's no end in sight for gas price relief
Since the beginning of 2022, the price of gas in northwestern Ontario increased by roughly 40 cents per litre, and according to GasBuddy, we could be breaking that $2 mark sooner than later.
GasBuddy Petroleum Analyst, Patrick De Haan says due to a few factors the price of fuel will continue to increase in the coming weeks.
“Oil prices last week jumped by $10/barrel from the start of the week to the end of the week,” says De Haan. “That combined with the switch over to clearer more expensive summer gasoline that’s taken effect.”

The Toronto Blue Jays send Yusei Kikuchi to the mound tonight in New York to open a two-game series. The Yankees counter with Luis Severino. The Jays are coming off a losing series in Cleveland where they dropped three of four games.
Johnny Gaudreau scored on a penalty shot and the Calgary Flames beat the Stars in Dallas to even up their best-of-seven opening-round playoff series at two wins apiece. The series heads back to Calgary for Game 5 on Wednesday.
HWY 105 at Caribou Creek re-opened following washout
After being closed for over two days the Municipality of Red Lake and the Ministry of Transportation confirmed on Monday night (May 9, 2022) that Highway 105 at Caribou Creek has been repaired and is re-opened.
"Those travelling should remain cautious as conditions could change at any time," says the municipality in a social media post on Monday evening.
The road surface completely washed out at approximately noon on Saturday, May 7, 2022, and it is understood that a logging road, which could've served as an alternate route was also washed away.
MNRF sets up sandbag distribution centre in Dryden
The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources, and Forestry is distributing sandbags to those who live in the unorganized areas of Dryden.
The ministry has set up a sandbag distribution centre at the Dryden Agricultural Centre at 99 Scott Street. Sand will also be available on-site as well.
Those receiving sandbags may be asked to provide identification, to ensure that resources are being distributed appropriately.
Red Lake Mayor provides update on HWY 105 closure

The Municipality of Red Lake has provided an update regarding the Highway 105 closure.
"We have been advised that MTO crews continue to work diligently to have the highway open this evening," the municipality says in a social media post on Monday afternoon (May 9, 2022).
They concluded by saying they will update again once they learn more.

More rain, severe thunderstorms in Monday's forecast
The bulk of the rain that Environment Canada predicted on Friday (May 6, 2022) is supposed to hit the region on Monday (May 9, 2022).
On Sunday (May 8, 2022) the weather agency issued a Rainfall Warning for the Kenora and Dryden areas, calling for a lot of rain to fall in a short amount of time.
