Rainfall Warning in effect for the region, 30 to 50 mm expected

In light of a storm system moving into northwestern Ontario, Environment Canada has issued a Rainfall Warning for the Kenora, Dryden, and Sioux Lookout areas. 

Kenora and Dryden could expect around 30 to 50 mm of rain starting Friday afternoon (April 22, 2022) through into Sunday (April 24, 2022). The agency is calling for Sioux Lookout to get about 25 to 40 mm of rain starting Friday night into Sunday afternoon.

Construction begins on Dryden’s new seniors housing complex

Over 40 new housing units are coming to the Dryden community after a significant provincial investment, with construction set to wrap up as soon as next summer.

The Kenora District Services Board, Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford and representatives of the City of Dryden joined together to announce $1.6 million in provincial funding for a 41-unit seniors housing complex on April 21.

Melillo concerned after Bank of Canada's interest rate increased

The key interest rate for the Bank of Canada has seen the highest increase in more than 20 years after they raised the rate by half a percentage point to one per cent last week.

In a release, the bank said that a lot of factors came into having to raise the rate such as Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, the constant spike in the inflation rate, and increases in oil and natural gas.

NWO spring hockey team excited for first tournament in Winnipeg

Excitement is brewing for a northwestern Ontario regional spring AAA hockey team, as they travel to Winnipeg this weekend for their first tournament of the season.

The newly formed Northern Wolverines solely made up of players born in 2009, will be taking part in the Early Bird North American Hockey Classic starting Friday (April 22, 2022).

Mike Svienson, who serves as an assistant coach for the Wolverines, says the excitement level is through the roof for the team's first tournament of the season.
