Stone calls for cross-party collaboration to unleash Manitoba's potential amid tariff threats

Manitoba's Finance Critic says it's time to work together and unleash the province's economic potential.

In an op-ed, Lauren Stone, says U.S. President Trump's initial February 1st tariff deadline should serve as a wake-up call, adding it's time to pivot and diversify our export markets and attract investment to Manitoba.

"The United States has shown that with a single stroke of a pen, they can devastate Canada’s economy," said Stone during a follow-up interview.

Fire fighters rescue one from loaded semi trailer east of Plum Coulee

One person was sent to hospital with minor injuries Thursday afternoon after being rescued from the front of a loaded semi trailer.

Emergency crews, including the members of the Plum Coulee Fire Department and RCMP, were called to the scene of an outdoor bale storage site about two miles east of Plum Coulee on Highway 14.

Boil Water Advisory issued for portion of Dominion City

A portion of Dominion City is under a Boil Water Advisory following a water break earlier today.
    
According to the public notice distributed by the Municipality of Emerson-Franklin, the break led to the loss of water pressure which can compromise the safety of the water supply. 
    
Affected areas include:
Wadell Avenue between Sullivan Street and Scott Street;
Scott Street, including Roseau Valley School and;
Franklin Avenue West from Scott Street to Hunter Avenue

Semi driver ticketed after two-vehicle crash near Ste. Agathe

Police have released details from Tuesday evening's crash near Ste. Agathe.

According to Manitoba RCMP, around 6 p.m., a semi-truck carrying washer fluid drove through the southbound lane of Highway 75 and collided with an SUV. The collision closed the main thoroughfare, near Highway 305, for several hours until around 9 p.m.

RCMP touts added tech in enhanced border security push

RCMP is using the recent apprehension of six people attempting to illegally cross the Canada/U.S. border in southern Manitoba as an example of the technology and other assets available at their disposal to secure the international boundary. 

Last month, we reported that Mounties intercepted the group crossing into Canada from the United States on foot near Emerson on January 14th. 

Business Council of Manitoba president/CEO named to province's new U.S. trade council ahead of looming tariffs

A diplomatic solution would be the ideal outcome to the looming U.S. tariffs, according to Bram Strain, president and CEO of the Business Council of Manitoba.
    
Strain will be representing 100 of Manitoba's largest employers in his role on the Province's new U.S. Trade Council, made up of 16 of Manitoba's industry leaders, to support preparations for the tariffs.

He says they want to understand the tariffs' impact and where they could be mitigated or combatted.
