From construction to celebration: Wakaw’s 1st Street revamp complete
Downtown in Wakaw is buzzing following the recent completion of the 1st Street revitalization project.
Work was completed on the 100 and 200 blocks of the Street.
The project began last September with work continuing until the snow arrived in November.
SPSA: Recent rainfall has little impact on wildfires
While it was a wet weekend for most of Saskatchewan, most of the rainfall didn’t reach their northern section of the province that is experiencing the wildfires.
The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency said in their latest wildfire update on Monday that the recent rainfall only had a limited impact on the wildfires.
Broncos to play in seven preseason games
Before the Humboldt Broncos and the rest of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) drop the puck on the 2025-26 regular season, they will work off the summer rust in the preseason.

Hot, dry weather taking toll on area crops
The upcoming precipitation this weekend should bring relief to some local producers.
According to the latest Crop Report from the Ministry of Agriculture, hot and dry conditions are taking a toll on the crops in the area.
It noted last week there was minimal rainfall in the area with a few areas of the region receiving showers.
Cool Comeback: Ice is going back in at the Elgar Petersen Arena
Winter is coming and one of the surest signs of its upcoming arrival is the installation of the ice surface inside of the Elgar Petersen Arena.
Director of Community and Leisure Services Mike Ulriksen explains that the process, which takes approximately two weeks, began last week with the ice plant being turned on.
Over the August long weekend, workers began putting water down on the surface.
Merek Yeager, Saskatoon Berries keep season alive with 15–6 win in Moose Jaw
Facing elimination after dropping Game 1 on Wednesday night, the Saskatoon Berries turned to Merek Yeager for a crucial start on the mound for Game 2.
The Muenster product delivered with a quality start as the Saskatoon Berries hammered the Moose Jaw Miller Express 15-6.
With the win on Thursday night, the Berries evened the best of three series 1-1.
Humboldt RCMP reminds public to protect themselves from potential fraud
Humboldt RCMP are reminding residents to protect themselves from individuals fraudulently offering services – including those who offer asphalt and paving services.
They said to remember, if a deal seems too good to be true, it likely is. Be wary of unsolicited offers of discounted or cheap paving or deals on asphalt “leftover” from another project.
RCMP cautions to be wary of any individual who is forcing you to make a quick decision or is putting unreasonable pressure on you.
Humboldt Aquatic Centre prepares for annual maintenance shutdown
Just like students in the summer, the pool is taking a short break too
The Aquatic Centre Pool will begin its annual shut down for maintenance repairs next week.
Beginning on Monday, August 11, the pool will be closed to the public until Saturday, August 30.
This is being done to extend the life of the pool and to avoid shutdowns throughout the rest of the year.
Homicides decline in 2025 After record high in Saskatchewan RCMP jurisdiction
The Saskatchewan RCMP has reported a drop in the number of homicides so far in 2025, following a record-breaking year for homicide investigations in 2024.
From January 1 to July 15, 2025, RCMP responded to 13 homicide files involving 13 victims within their jurisdiction. This marks a notable decrease from the same period in 2024, which saw 23 homicides reported. Of this year’s 13 homicides, nine have been solved, while four remain under investigation.
