Last week, the Carstairs Fire Department took to social media to show pictures of themselves practicing vehicle extractions.

Josh Van Arnam, a captain of the fire department spoke with DiscoverAirdrie and explained that every Wednesday night, they do some type of practicing.

"We always try and keep up on all of our skills because being volunteer firefighters, we have a lot of skills to deal with as you could end up taking on my different roles in an emergency."

The Air 106 Summer Cruiser will be making appearances at various events this weekend, and it has your chance to win big when you see them! 

Until the end of this month, road maintenance will be performed north of Airdrie on Highway 581, just west of the QEII (southbound), which will impact motorists and traffic in the area.

The nearly decade-old case of the death of an area woman, 31-year-old Amanda Antoni is being explored by the Netflix series, Unsolved Mysteries. Antoni was born in Calgary and raised in Carstairs.

Radio stations across Alberta are coming together to support those impacted by the Jasper Wildfire through the Red Cross.

We’re hosting a province-wide bottle drive: drop off your bottle donations at our station - the ATR Logistics truck will be here as well - from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. With your chance to win prizes for just donating or bring them to any Alberta bottle depot and say, "These are for Jasper."

Two hours after the news that a massive wildfire had reached the town of Jasper, Carstairs Fire Chief Jordan Schaffer and several other firefighters were dispatched to the town. 

Within hours, he and several other firefighters from his department as well as Didsbury firefighters were in the thick of one of the largest wildfires in the national park's history.

"When we got there, the wildfire had already come through; the town was well on fire by that time," he said. "It was pitch black when we got there, so we couldn't see where the forest fire was due to all the smoke."

Mark Your Calendars! On Wednesday, July 31st, Air 106.1 in Airdrie is proudly participating in the Alberta Day of Caring for Jasper—a province-wide initiative to support those affected by the recent Jasper Wildfire. We’re teaming up with radio stations across Alberta to make a meaningful impact, and we need your help!

The Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies has announced that there are facilities available for wildfire evacuees, several of those facilities are in Rocky View County and neighbouring Mountain View County.

On its website, The Agricultural Society has a map with the location details, as well as what the facilities include and contact details.

Multiple local fire departments have announced that they have deployed members to Jasper as a devastating wildfire has breached the town. 

Carstairs Fire Department shared that they have sent equipment as well as three members to assist in firefighting efforts, adding they picked up a member from the Didsbury Fire Department, driving through the night to reach the town.

Calgary Stampede Lotteries has announced the winners of the 2024 Stampede Lotteries draws.
