More Canadian content: Goldeyes trade for slugging first baseman Warkentin
The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced the acquisition and signing Thursday of Canadian first baseman Matthew Warkentin.
Warkentin was obtained from the Frontier League’s Ottawa Titans in exchange for a player to be named later.
The 28-year-old is a native of Windsor, Ontario and becomes the sixth Canadian on the Goldeyes’ roster, joining right-handed pitchers Landen Bourassa (Lethbridge, Alberta), Trevor Brigden (North York, Ontario), Tylor Jans (St. Albert, Alberta), Landon Leach (Toronto, Ontario) and Will Sierra (Montréal, Québec).
Goldeyes sign veteran shortstop Didder
The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced the signing Monday of multi-talented position player Ray-Patrick Didder, whose primary position is shortstop.
A native of Oranjestad, Aruba, Didder has twice been a recent teammate of Goldeyes All-Star Dayson Croes when the pair represented the Netherlands at the World Baseball Softball Confederation Premier12 tournament last November, and the Japan Series earlier this month.
Team Canada reliever Brigden joins Goldeyes
The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced the signing Wednesday of North York, Ontario native and former National Team member Trevor Brigden.
Brigden is a right-handed relief pitcher who has spent much of the past four seasons at the Class-AAA level with the International League’s Durham Bulls.
Goldeyes re-sign veteran outfielder Max Murphy
Outfielder Max Murphy will be returning for a fifth season with the Winnipeg Goldeyes. The announcement was made during the annual Princess Auto/Goldeyes Kids Winter Skills Camp at Home Run Sports Training Centre, at which Murphy was an instructor.
Goldeyes re-sign infielder Bramasco
The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced the re-signing of infielder Ramón Bramasco Monday.
Bramasco joined the Goldeyes in April after two seasons with the Cancún-based Tigres de Quintana Roo of the Mexican Baseball League.
In 77 games with the Goldeyes, the 27-year-old hit .286 with 12 doubles, four home runs, 38 runs batted in, and 11 stolen bases. Bramasco played all four infield positions in 2024, including 48 games at third base and 20 at shortstop.
Goldeyes re-sign speedy outfielder Alexander
The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced the re-signing Tuesday of outfielder Evan Alexander.
Claimed off waivers from the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks August 25, Alexander appeared in five regular season games for the Goldeyes last season, in addition to five postseason contests. Overall, the 26-year-old batted .227 with 15 doubles, three triples, and nine home runs. He drove in 45 runs and swiped 17 bases.
Goldeyes re-sign star pitcher Bourassa ahead of 2025 season
The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced Monday that right-handed starting pitcher Landen Bourassa has signed with the club for the 2025 American Association season. It will be the Lethbridge, Alberta native’s fifth season with the Goldeyes.
Bourassa made 20 starts in 2024, going 8-7 with a pair of complete games. He recorded a 4.01 earned run average in 119 innings.
Goldeyes manager and coaching staff sign on for 2 more years
The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced Wednesday that manager Logan Watkins, pitching coach Mark Brewer, and hitting coach Adam Donachie have agreed to new two-year contracts with the club.
Goldeyes' Collier honoured as Executive of the Year
Winnipeg Goldeyes General Manager Andrew Collier has been named American Association Executive of the Year, the league announced Monday.
The 2024 season marks Collier’s 23rd as the club’s General Manager. He previously won the award in 2014 in the American Association and 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2009 in the Northern League.
Goldeyes shut out by Cougars in game two
A bloop single to right field in the bottom of the fourth inning drove in the game’s only run as the Kane County Cougars (6-0) defeated the Winnipeg Goldeyes 1-0 in game two of the Miles Wolff Cup Final at Northwestern Medicine Field Sunday afternoon.
