Wounds and scars

Psalm 147

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Scripture is a verse containing much emotion: "From the city men groan, and the souls of the wounded cry out" (Job 24:12).

The scene is a busy metropolis. Speed. Movement. Noise. Rows of buildings. All that is obvious, easily seen and heard by the city dweller.

Bombers hold off Riders for 26–21 victory in Banjo Bowl thriller

Saturday’s 26-21 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the annual Banjo Bowl in front of another capacity crowd of 32,343 at Princess Auto Stadium had so many savoury layers to it.

Most important: not only is it a fifth straight ‘W’ to improve the club’s record to 7-6 – the first time over .500 this season – it keeps them atop the West Division, tied with the B.C. Lions but with a tiebreaker already secured. The Riders, meanwhile, are now 5-7-1 after a 5-1 start to their season.

Manitoba photographer pained to see another grain elevator demolished

A grain elevator just north of Carman, Man., was torn down at the end of August, marking the end of an almost century-long era for the community of Barnsley.

Photographer George Penner of West St. Paul has dedicated years to capturing the essence of grain elevators, Ukrainian churches, and railway stations through his lens. His passion for architecture has fueled this hobby throughout his retirement. Penner visited Barnsley over the past few years to photograph the structures, with his most recent visit taking place this June.

Facing the facts

Psalm 127

How's it going with you and the kids? Maybe that question doesn't apply to you. You may be single, or you may not have children, or you may have already raised your brood. If so, bear with me while I address those of you who are still in the process of training and rearing.

So, how's it going? What word(s) would you use to describe your overall relationship with your offspring? Challenging? Strained? Pleasant? Impossible? Angry? Threatening? Adventurous? Heartbreaking? Impatient? Exciting? Fun? Busy?
