Federal Court dismisses challenge of Trudeau's move to prorogue Parliament

A federal judge has dismissed a legal challenge of Justin Trudeau's move to prorogue Parliament, concluding the prime minister did not exceed the bounds of his authority.

Two Nova Scotia men had asked the Federal Court to declare the current suspension of Parliament illegal because there must be a "reasonable justification" for hitting the pause button.

David MacKinnon of Amherst, N.S., and Aris Lavranos of Halifax sought an order setting aside Trudeau's January decision to advise Gov. Gen. Mary Simon to exercise her power to prorogue Parliament until March 24.

Manitoba cabinet to approve or deny power deals with the United States

The Manitoba government signalled Thursday it may curtail exports of hydroelectricity to the United States in response to tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, but stopped short of cutting back supply immediately or adding surcharges.

The NDP government issued a directive to Crown-owned Manitoba Hydro that says cabinet approval is now needed for any new major power purchase or export contract with bodies in the U.S., or any extensions or cancellations of existing deals.

Trudeau aiming to secure extension to 2031 for signature $10-a-day child-care program

The federal government is trying to secure extensions through to 2031 for its national $10-a-day child-care program ahead of an expected election, but is already facing a few snags.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Thursday that 11 provinces and territories have agreed to extend the deals that give those jurisdictions billions of dollars to cut child-care fees for families.

Canada cannot go back to making families pay the equivalent of a mortgage payment for child care, he said.

Ripple of hope: Clean water and gospel reviving Africa’s largest slum

In the largest slum in Africa, there is a ministry shining the light of Jesus and bringing hope through clean water.

In Kenya, there is a place known as Kibera. It is known as one of the "darkest, filthiest, and most hopeless places in the world." Not only does this slum not have the basic necessities like clean water or sanitation, it's overrun with gang violence.

The 'houses' in Kibera are usually eight feet by eight feet, created out of mud, used for sleeping and sitting.

Verse of the day: March 7

Psalm 139: 23-24

"Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting."
