Snow Lake orders evacuation as wildfires merge into massive blaze
The Town of Snow Lake has issued a mandatory evacuation order, requiring all residents to leave by noon on Saturday, June 7, as a massive wildfire threat looms.
The order follows a prior evacuation alert and was announced at noon Friday.
Approximately 1,100 people live in the northern Manitoba community, which is now under threat from three wildfires that have merged into a single, massive blaze. According to the City of Flin Flon, the fire spans an estimated 140 kilometres in length and five kilometres in width.
Manitoba premier eyes northern development that could include a pipeline
Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew promoted his province Friday as the route for a future trade corridor, which could include a pipeline, in order to get goods from Western Canada to overseas markets.
"The politics are (that) something needs to get built in Western Canada. I think everybody understands that," Kinew told a breakfast meeting of the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce.

Della Peters, 75, of Steinbach passed away Tuesday, June 3rd at Bethesda Regional Health Centre. She is survived by 3 sons, 3 grandchildren, and 1 sister. She was predeceased by her husband Diedrich, 1 daughter, 1 grandson and 3 brothers.
A memorial service for Della Peters will be held Monday, June 9th at 11am at Birchwood Funeral Chapel.

140-kilometre-long wildfire threatens southern Flin Flon
A wildfire burning close to Flin Flon is closing in on the city.
Officials say no structures have been lost in Flin Flon or Creighton as of last night. However, winds in the area are now blowing from the south, resulting in heavy smoke and fire moving towards the south side of Flin Flon.
"Fire protection, including sprinklers, has been set up, and fire crews will be working in the Channing area to protect property in the area," said city officials in a post on Facebook.
