The Winnipeg Goldeyes (10–13) were shut out 5–0 by the Kane County Cougars (10–12) Tuesday evening at Blue Cross Park, dropping the opening game of the three-game series.
 
Kane County opened the scoring in the fourth inning on a wild pitch by Winnipeg starter Luke Boyd that brought Armond Upshaw home. Despite the run, Boyd (0–2) turned in a quality start in his home debut, allowing just one hit and one earned run over six innings, walking two and striking out five.

Three homes sustained significant damage Tuesday afternoon after a fire in the city's West End. 

The blaze broke out around 1:50 p.m. in the 400 block of Langside Street near Ellice Avenue. 

Videos circulating on social media showed massive plumes of smoke pouring into the sky that could be seen across the city. 

When crews arrived, they found smoke and fire coming from three homes. 

Due to the size of the fire, additional resources were called in to help contain the blaze. 

It took about an hour to get the fires under control. 

Proposed federal legislation would give authorities new powers to search mail, make it easier for officials to pause or cancel immigration applications and expand the Canadian Coast Guard’s role to include security activities.

Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree introduced the Strong Borders Act in the House of Commons on Tuesday.

The government says the wide-ranging, 127-page bill aims to keep borders secure, combat transnational organized crime, stop the flow of deadly fentanyl and crack down on money laundering.

Canada's tourism industry might be in for a boost as Canadians boycott the United States and spend their travel dollars closer to home this year.

In a report released May 29, the Conference Board of Canada estimates the net economic benefit for the domestic tourism sector could be as high as $8.8 billion.

The think tank said its April travel intentions survey suggests roughly 27 per cent of Canadian respondents are considering a trip to the U.S. in the next few years - down from more than 50 per cent in the same survey last November.

A ministry from southern Manitoba is combining motocross and faith as it hosts its first event at the end of June. 

"It's ride day camps for kids or adults, whoever wants to come out and just hang out and ride dirt bikes," says Kevin Nolt, who started Activate Motocross Ministry. "We'll eat some BBQ food, and there'll be some discussions and videos on faith-based subjects."

The inspiration behind the name 'Activate' comes from Mark 16:15, in which it says, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation."

Officials in Manitoba and Saskatchewan say areas affected by wildfires aren't expected to see much relief in the weather forecast in the coming days.

More than 30,000 people in those provinces have been forced to leave their homes as wildfires threaten their communities.

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe said Tuesday that there would be challenging days ahead due to a lack of rain in the forecast.

A young fellow rushed into a gas station to use the pay phone. The manager overheard his telephone conversation as he asked: "Sir, could you use a hardworking, honest young man to work for you?" [pause] "Oh...you've already got a hardworking, honest young man? Well, thanks anyway!"

The boy hung up the phone with a smile. Humming to himself, he began to walk away, obviously happy.

"How can you be so cheery?" asked the eavesdropping manager. "I thought the man you talked to already had someone and didn't want to hire you."

The Adult and Teen Challenge of Central Canada campus in Denare Beach, Sask., has been destroyed by wildfire.

The confirmation came shortly after 11:30 Tuesday morning, following a CHVN interview with regional director Allen Lagore earlier in the day. At the time of the interview, around 10:30 a.m., Lagore said they were still awaiting word on the status of their property.

A 63-year-old man is dead after his all-terrain vehicle flipped on the highway over the weekend. 

The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. on Highway 482, one kilometre west of Dropmore. 

Several bystanders had stopped to help the seriously injured man until paramedics arrived at the scene. 

The driver was transported to hospital via ambulance and then life-flighted by STARS to Winnipeg, where he died of his injuries. 

He was not wearing a helmet.
