New Beef Cattle Research Council chair at the U of M to focus on best environmental practices and economic viability
A new beef-focused research chair will soon begin work at the University of Manitoba.
The 10-year role has been named the BCRC Chair in Beef Cattle Economic Sustainability.
“I believe this is the fourth chair position that we’ve developed,” said Craig Lehr, chair of the BCRC’s producer council.
Applied research associations receive $3.2 million in provincial funding
One-time grant from Alberta government to help applied research associations upgrade equipment, facilities and infrastructure
Alberta’s government has provided a one-time grant of $3.2 million to 12 applied research associations across the province.
This capital funding will enable the research associations to upgrade equipment, facilities and infrastructure.
With the additional funding, the research associations will be able to address pressing capital equipment issues.
Revamp coming for Canada’s national pig code
Canada’s Code of Practice for Care and Handling of Pigs is up for review, a process expected to be compete by 2028
Canada’s national pig code is getting an update.
‘We’ve launched the code of practice with the National Farm Animal Care Council,” said Stephen Heckbert, executive director of the Canadian Pork Council.
The Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Pigs will be guided by the development process set out by the National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC), the spearheading body for Canada’s various livestock codes.
