Saskatchewan NDP energized by election gains despite remaining in opposition
The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) made significant inroads in urban areas in the recent provincial election, securing 27 seats, up from their previous total, including a sweep of all seats in Regina and all but one in Saskatoon. However, the Saskatchewan Party, which has held power since 2007, retained its majority largely by securing rural ridings, with the exception of the two northernmost seats in the province. The WCS Eagles came into the night trailing in the four-game challenge, with Estevan having taken both matches in the first leg, played in Estevan on October 9th. This would mean the Eagles needed a strong performance in both of the games in front of their home crowd.

Job numbers decline in southeast Saskatchewan, unemployment rate improves
The latest job data from Statistics Canada was released Friday morning, and it showed the unemployment rate in southeast Saskatchewan was down in September, despite fewer people working in the region.
The Regina-Moose Mountain Economic Region, which includes Weyburn and Estevan, had an unemployment rate of 5.9 per cent in September. This was down slightly from 6.1 per cent in August. Despite the drop, 1600 fewer people were working in the region, primarily in Regina.
Shaw reflects on Paralympic experience in Paris
Midale’s Keely Shaw had southeast Saskatchewan awake early and glued to the television on August 30th, as she raced for the bronze medal in the C4 Women's 3000m pursuit at the Paralympics in France. Shaw would finish the race in a time 3:46.942, beating Samantha Bosco of the United States for the medal.
Kitchen raises concerns about impartiality in House
Earlier this week, the Speaker of the House of Commons, Greg Fergus, admonished Members of Parliament in general, and gave them a warning about their behaviour after a heated exchange in the House of Commons some thought could turn to blows.
The Conservatives stated the NDP leader Jagmeet Singh challenged Conservative leader Piere Poilievre to a fight during the exchange, while the NDP stated Singh was standing up to bullying from Poilievre.
