Bouncy houses and hot dogs highlights of Maple Leaf PAC's Carnival & BBQ

Bouncy castles and a hot dog lunch were among the highlights of this year’s PAC Carnival & BBQ at Maple Leaf Elementary School. Organized by the school’s Parent Advisory Council, the BBQ served as an opportunity for parents to celebrate the school year with their children.  

Full speed ahead: Grad parade honours 2025 high school graduates

Graduates from Garden Valley Collegiate and Northlands Parkway Collegiate were honoured last Wednesday with a grad parade in Winkler. A tradition since 2020, turnout from the community was excellent to support this year’s grads.  

The parade offered an opportunity for grads to put their creativity on show, and Yaroslav Yagudin and his friends certainly did so. They customized “a Batmobile with a pool": a convertible with a pool in the back seats, where they sat during the parade.  

A community effort: Salem BBQ raising funds for park  

The Salem Home Foundation and the Ladies’ Auxiliary hosted their annual Spring Fundraiser BBQ Wednesday, May 28th to raise funds to improve Salem Park. Karin Oliveira, CEO of Salem Home and executive director of the Salem Foundation, notes that the fundraiser would not only pay for the concrete sidewalk of the park, but also other features for the residents of Salem Home and the community to use. “We like to see the community coming out.” Oliveira shared.

Good eats for a good cause: The Bunker food truck is back

The Bunker’s Industrial Eats food truck is open in full swing this year, continuing their tradition of hosting a fundraiser lunch on The Bunker’s parking lot. We spoke to The Bunker's executive director Kevin Hildebrand last Thursday (May 22), before the lunch rush came by, and he noted the longevity of this fundraiser: “This is something we’ve been doing for a lot of years, on Thursdays over lunch”.  The lunches support the work of The Bunker Youth Drop-in Centre programs.
