Red Wings unable to maintain momentum in Assiniboia

After picking up a win in their first ‘home’ game in Assiniboia Friday night, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings were looking to keep the momentum going Saturday against the Kindersley Klippers. The Klippers, though, had other plans. They would come out strong in the first period and held off the Red Wings for a 4-2 victory.

News broke on Friday that federal Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon was asking the Canada Industrial Relations Board to order the Canadian Union of Postal Workers back to work if the board agreed with his determination there was an impasse in negotiations. If the board agrees with his assessment, it would see the striking employees return to their jobs, and work under the existing collective agreements until this coming May.  

Two charged in connection to death on White Bear First Nation

The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit has charged two men in connection with a suspicious death on White Bear First Nation earlier this week.  

The RCMP have charged 22-year-old Jeremy Whitebear with second-degree murder and 26-year-old Dwayne Maxie with manslaughter in connection with the death of 33-year-old Talon Lonethunder. Lonethunder was found deceased in a home on White Bear First Nation early Tuesday morning.

U13 AA, U18 AA Gold Wings dominate competition in Calgary and North Dakota

It was a good weekend for a pair of hockey teams from Weyburn.  

The U13 A Young Fellow Gold Wings were off to Calgary on the weekend, where they would play in Wick Fest, one of the largest female hockey tournaments in the country. The Gold Wings would make it through round-robin undefeated and then go on to win the Platinum Championship.  

SGI seeks updated customer information during postal strike

With the disruption of mail services due to the strike by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, SGI is looking to update their customer information.

The Crown insurance company is sending high-priority mail via courier services. However, courier services aren’t able to deliver to P.O. boxes. With that in mind, they are asking customers who have a P.O. box to provide an alternate mailing address to ensure they receive important documents.
