Museum to honour Chinese Canadian troops who fought in war and for citizenship rights
Former B.C. judge Randall (Bud) Wong remembers getting out of bed early one morning when he was five to greet his uncle at the train station in Vancouver at the end of the Second World War in 1945.
His uncle Delbert Yen Chow was returning from India after years of service as an infantryman.
“I remember very vividly my uncle coming off the train, and he was wearing his army uniform and knapsack,” said Wong, 83.
“We were so happy to see him that we took him home, and then he came to live with us.”

Winkler man facing assault, weapons and uttering threats charges after Southgate Drive incident
A Sunday morning incident in Winkler involving a man assaulting an individual, threatening a neighbour and barricading himself in a room in his home ended safely according to police.
Winkler Police Service has released more details on the situation which began shortly after 9:00 a.m. when officers were called to a home on Southgate Drive. In a news release issued by the department to PembinaValleyOnline, a family member reported a 45-year-old male resident of the address had assaulted another person inside the home and had also threatened a neighbour.

Mennonite Collegiate Institute's (MCI) new Principal is well into her first school year in the role. Londa Backlund joined the faculty in July of this year, and brings an extensive education background including teaching at an independent Christian school in Winnipeg, and her hometown public school in MacGregor.
She has a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership, alongside her Education degree from U of M with four teachable subjects including English, Math, Psychology and Religion.
More attempted and successful scam attempts reported to Winkler Police
Winkler Police Service continues to receive a significant number fraud reports.
One came from a female who reported October 29th she received several parking notices via text message containing a link to a provincial website which appeared to be legitimate. She made three separate payments, but continued to receive texts. Police advised her this was a scam, and to contact her banking institution and credit card company.

The Pembina Valley Twisters dropped a 6-2 decision to the St. Vital Victorias. Darby Olson and Owen Vanrobaeys scored for the Twisters who were outshot 46-23 by the Vics.
'I was called;' Murray Sinclair's life and legacy honoured at emotional memorial
Applause erupted over and over at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg Sunday as the son of Murray Sinclair, a former judge, senator and chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission into residential schools, spoke about his father.
Niigaan Sinclair said his dad "was a first" in every room he walked into.
"It was impossible to go through a mall without 17 people, two of them he'd sentenced to jail at one point, coming up to him and saying how much they appreciated him," Niigaan Sinclair said.

Port workers' union accuses BC Maritime Employers Association of ending talks early
A labour dispute continues to paralyze cargo shipping at British Columbia ports, and the union for locked-out workers is accusing employers of abruptly ending contract talks early.
The International Longshore and Warehouse Local 514 says the BC Maritime Employers Association ended federally mandated talks with a mediator less than an hour after they began late Saturday afternoon.
The employers association said in an evening statement each side met separately with a mediator in Vancouver, but that there was "no progress made."
