The funeral service for Clara Anne Schroeder nee Wiebe will be held Saturday, June 28th at 2pm at Wiebe Funeral Chapel, Morden with burial at Hillside Cemetery.

Werner Trapp, 98, of Steinbach passed away Wednesday, June 11th at Bethesda Regional Health Centre. He is survived by 2 sons, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and their families. He was predeceased by his wife Helene, 1 sister, and 1 brother. 
The funeral service for Werner Trapp will be held Thursday, June 19th at 1pm at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with burial at Heritage Cemetery. 
Viewing will be at Birchwood Funeral Chapel Wednesday, June 18th from 7 to 8pm. 

Federal Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald visits Saskatchewan to meet with producers

Federal Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald recently spent Friday and Saturday touring Saskatchewan.

During his visit, he had an opportunity to talk with producers and stakeholders about key agricultural issues and concerns and the potential opportunities that exist within the industry today and in the future.

No sweep in Gary as Railcats top Goldeyes

The Gary SouthShore RailCats (9-24) avoided a series sweep at the hands of the Winnipeg Goldeyes (15-18) Sunday afternoon with a 9-1 victory at U.S. Steel Yard.
 
The RailCats got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when first baseman Joe Suozzi drew a bases-loaded walk that forced in LG Castillo. One pitch later, right fielder Jake Guenther – claimed off waivers from the Goldeyes one week ago – hit a grand slam to right field to make the score 5-0.
 

A 'bittersweet' moment as grad approaches for W.C. Miller Valedictorian

One chapter is ending, but their entire lives lay in front of them for the grads at Altona's W.C. Miller Collegiate. Aidyn Isaak is the Valedictorian for the class.

"It feels good, it feels bittersweet," she shared when asked about being chosen for the role. "Happy it's over, but also nervous, because what we do next. It's really an honour being valedictorian, people choosing they want you to represent your grade is pretty cool."

Isaak describes the grad class as being different from previous ones.

Legacy and community shine at 2025 Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony

Morden’s Access Event Centre was packed Saturday night for the 2025 Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony. In total there were nine individuals, one family, one in the builders category, three teams and three honourary life members inducted Saturday night. 

E-bike safety under the spotlight as Altona Police launch summer initiative

There's been a significant increase in e-bike traffic on local roads, and members of the Altona Police Service will be spending the summer months raising awareness of the laws regarding the vehicles.

According to Sergeant Shawn Tarnick, two areas where officers are seeing non-compliance is drivers meeting the minimum age requirement.

"We are seeing children, twelve/thirteen-year-olds, that are driving e-bikes, and we've actually seen it younger. So, that's a no-no," he commented, adding you have to be at least 14 years-old to legally operate an e-bike on the road. 

Carney's task at G7 will be to keep the group alive as experts question the outcome

As Prime Minister Mark Carney gets ready to host U.S. President Donald Trump and other leaders at the G7 summit in Alberta, analysts say Canada's most important goal will be to keep the G7 from falling apart — even if that means not issuing a joint statement.

"Keeping this informal international organization together will, I think, be a mark of success," said Sen. Peter Boehm, a former diplomat who played a central role in Canada’s participation in the G7 for decades.
