Carol Anne Wiebe nee Janick, 65, of St. Stephen, New Brunswick formerly of Carman and La Riviere, passed away Monday, August 4th at Bobby’s Hospice, St. John, New Brunswick. She is survived by husband Tom, and their children Kaitlin, Chloe, Hayden (Moriah) and granddaughter Maggie, her mother Jean Janick and siblings Bob, Brian & Marg, and her sister and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents-in-law.
'Screaming into silence': Parents of serial killer victim address special hearing
The father of a First Nations woman who died at the hands of a Winnipeg serial killer told a special court hearing his family was left to "grieve in pieces" for three years before she was identified.
The family and community of Ashlee Shingoose presented victim impact statements Friday during the hearing in Manitoba's Court of King's Bench.
It came one year after Jeremy Skibicki was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life for killing Shingoose and three other First Nations women.
Air Canada flight attendants on strike, airline's flights cancelled
Passengers around the world are feeling the effects after the union representing more than 10,000 flight attendants with Air Canada announced its members were walking off the job after it was unable to reach an eleventh hour deal with the airline.
The strike officially began just before 1 a.m. ET on Saturday.
Keelin Pringnitz and her family, from Ottawa, were returning from a European vacation, but were left stranded after flights were cancelled.
U15 Energy punch ticket to playoffs
After finishing 1-1 for the day yesterday, the U15 Central Energy earned a playoff spot, and will be taking on PEI at 9:00 a.m on Diamond 1 in Winkler.
“(We had a) tough 7-0 loss (in the) morning against ON1,” explains coach Kevin Convery. “But, bounced back to defeat SK2 in the afternoon to punch our ticket to the playoffs.”
Convery says the team has showed a lot of heart throughout the tournament. “Very proud of how our girls played today in the second game. The offense finally came back to life with 10 hits and 10 runs.”

Province approves new 16-month BEd degree at Canadian Mennonite University
Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) has received provincial approval to launch a new condensed 16-month Bachelor of Education after-degree program, set to welcome its first cohort in August 2026.
The program aims to prepare confident, community-minded teachers to work in classrooms across Manitoba and beyond, with 28 weeks of practicum placements built into the schedule. The practicum includes extended time in rural and northern communities.
Canada Post and union meeting delayed until next week due to mediator availability
A meeting between Canada Post and the union representing 55,000 postal workers has been delayed until next week due to the availability of federal mediators, the company says.
The two sides, which were set to meet Friday, will now meet on Aug. 20.
It's been two weeks since members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers rejected the employers' latest offers in a majority vote.
After more than a year and a half of negotiations, the two sides met with federal mediators earlier this week before agreeing to meet with each other.
