Town of Altona releases statement regarding Pride event this weekend

Update Friday, June 7th at 1:24 p.m. - For the second time the Town of Altona will be the host community of the Pembina Valley Pride March and Rally on Saturday in Altona Park.

In light of word from organizers that food trucks will no longer be part of the event due to threats being levelled against those indicated as participating in a previously published online list, the Town has issued the following statement:

Rainwatchers report wet end to weekend, with more rain coming this week

Well, at least we had a couple of days without rain before another round of accumulating precipitation rolled across the Pembina and Red River Valleys late Sunday afternoon and evening.

"A low pressure system moving across the Dakotas pushed thunderstorms northward into Southern Manitoba," explained CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. "The system was moisture filled as a southwesterly flow had been pumping the region full of instability and precipitable moisture all day."

"This will be an absolute soaker," says CMOS Accredited Weathercaster

We suspect someone, somewhere is saying this right now, "Rain, rain go away, come again another day!" Yes, that Rainfall Warning remains in effect for much of Southern Manitoba with 50 to 60mm of precipitation possible Friday through Saturday morning before the system responsible moves out of our area.

Rainfall Warning issued ahead of significant precipitation Thursday night through Saturday morning

After a wet and windy start to May Long Weekend last week, it appears this coming weekend will have a similar theme, albeit with even more precipitation in the forecast. Environment Canada has issued Rainfall Warnings for much of Southern Manitoba from as far west as the Killarney area through Manitou, Pilot Mound, Morden, Carman, Winkler, Altona, Emerson, Morris and all of Southeastern Manitoba.

Between 50 and 60mm is being forecast, at this point.
