Winkler Police Service continues to see huge value in partnering will local COPP volunteers

A cheque presentation Tuesday demonstrates the continued confidence in Winkler's Citizens on Patrol Program (COPP).
    
Winkler Police Chief Ryan Hunt presented a cheque for $5000 on behalf of the Winkler Chamber of Commerce to Dustin Brown, the Coordinator of COPP in Winkler.
    
The money is an annual grant that comes out of the Police Services budget and flows through the Chamber.

Wastewater treatment expansion still at the forefront for City of Winkler council, City ensures residents can access DFA funds

The City of Winkler is reviewing submissions to a Request for Proposals (RFP).

After tenders for the city's wastewater treatment project came back $ 22 million over budget, the project was scrapped and went back to the design phase.

Jumping right back into action looking for alternative ways to make the much-needed expansion go ahead in some form, Winkler Mayor Martin Harder says an idea presented at June's Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) meeting in Regina sparked the idea to seek different ideas through the RFP process.

Perseverance, strength and resiliency highlighted during Gateway Resource's AGM

The perseverance, strength, adaptability, resiliency, commitment and dedication of the individuals they support, and their employees, were highlighted many times during gateway resources' annual meeting this week. Winkler gets bill for $43,000 to clear 'flushable wipes'

Residents throughout the Pembina and Red River Valleys found themselves dealing with sewer backups this past spring.

In Winkler, Mayor Martin Harder considers the city more fortunate than other municipalities but says there were still way too many sewer backups.
    
Just this past week, Harder found out the reason, in part, for the sewer backups in Winkler. 

He says the flow in the sewer line can't get through the system fast enough so the volume of water is what the sewer capacity can't handle.

Occupants of 4th Street residence alerted by neighbour of front porch blaze

A fire at a residence Sunday morning in Winkler remains under investigation.

Shortly before 8 am, the Winkler Fire Department, Winkler Police and EMS were dispatched to a residence on 4th Street, where a porch was on fire. 

Fire Chief Richard Paetzold says the neighbour saw that the porch to the house was on fire, and proceeded to alert the people inside. The occupants were all able to get out of the home unharmed.
    
No other injuries were sustained as a result.
