Carlyle RCMP investigating trio of business break-ins, suspect at large
The Carlyle RCMP is seeking the public's assistance in identifying a person of interest related to a break and enter late last week.
Early last Friday morning, three Carlyle businesses were broken into, and a few hundred dollars in cash were stolen. The suspect is also believed to have stolen a hamster that belonged to one of the business owners.
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 40 to 50 years old, between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall, with a goatee, wearing glasses and dressed in dark clothing.
Carney reaffirms Canadian support for Ukraine in first meeting with Zelenskyy
Prime Minister Mark Carney reaffirmed Canada's "steadfast and unwavering support" for Ukraine in his first meeting with the country's president on Saturday in Rome.

Tyler Smith shares message of connection throughout the southeast
Humboldt Broncos bus crash survivor Tyler Smith gave a number of mental health talks around the southeast for students in Grades six through nine.
The presentation began with a video encapsulating his message of the impact of his tragic experience on and following April 6th, 2018, and his journey to realizing the steps necessary for healing, a big part of which is to share his story and connect with others.
Hundreds of social housing units to be renovated in Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert
The Saskatchewan government is spending $9.2 million to begin repairs and renovations on nearly 300 provincially owned social housing units in Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert.
The funding is part of the 2025-26 provincial budget and will support multi-year projects aimed at making more units available for rent.
"Making rent-ready social housing units available across the province is a top priority," Social Services Minister Terry Jenson said. "This year's investment will increase the number of rentable units, reduce vacancies and meet the needs of larger families."
More Saskatchewan schools to receive mental health support through expanded program
Five more Saskatchewan high schools will receive mental health programming this fall as part of the province’s expanded Mental Health Capacity Building (MHCB) initiative.
Education Minister Everett Hindley and Mental Health and Addictions Minister Lori Carr announced the expansion Tuesday, naming Bedford Road Collegiate in Saskatoon, Rossignol High School in Île-à-la-Crosse, Martensville High School, Holy Rosary High School in Lloydminster and Swift Current Composite High School as the new additions.
Tornado confirmed near Maple Creek
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has confirmed a minor tornado near Maple Creek on Saturday.
The preliminarily rated EF0 tornado touched down about 20 kilometres south of Maple Creek at approximately 5:23 p.m.
ECCC confirmed the tornado on Sunday at 11:16 a.m. after receiving a report of it and a photo.
No reports of damage were shared with ECCC.
Carney meets Pope Leo XIV following inaugural mass at the Vatican
Prime Minister Mark Carney had a brief audience with Pope Leo XIV Sunday afternoon at the Vatican following the pontiff's inaugural mass in St. Peter's Square.
Carney was seated in the second row with his wife Diana for the mass, in a section amongst other world leaders and heads of state.
The prime minister, who is a devout Catholic, was one of the few world leaders to kneel during the blessing of the Eucharist, and was spotted at two instances taking a picture of the Pope on his phone to mark the occasion — before the mass started and after it had concluded.
Recent black bear sightings prompt reminder to be bear-aware
With recent black bear sightings making headlines, including one in Regina, Saskatchewan residents are reminded to stay vigilant and prepared when spending time outdoors.
“Really, Saskatchewan is bear country in many ways,” said Matthew Tokaruk, black bear biologist with the Ministry of Environment. “We have bears through much of the province—into the Parkland and even touching up against the grasslands sometimes.”
