Police seeking information regarding hit and run

The Moose Jaw Police Service is asking for the public's assistance in a hit and run involving a pedestrian on Saturday.

Police were called at approximately noon to the intersection of First Avenue Northeast and Oxford Street East.

Police say the suspect fled east on Oxford Street in what is believed to be a red pickup truck. The victim was taken to hospital with what is described as serious injuries.

From traffic collisions to violent crimes and everything in between, the voices on the other end of the line at Saskatchewan RCMP’s Operational Communications Centre (OCC) are a lifeline for thousands in crisis each year.

In 2024, the OCC answered 366,737 calls for service, a four per cent increase from the year before. More than 4,400 of those were Priority 1 calls, meaning they involved urgent or life-threatening situations that demanded immediate police intervention.

Expansion of nuclear energy hot topic at 79th Annual Midwestern Legislative Conference

The ‘control panel’ of nuclear energy in Saskatchewan sat before a multinational crowd at TCU place Tuesday morning. 

Premier Scott Moe, Cameco CEO Tim Gitzel, and Westinghouse President John Gorman spoke during the Fueling North America’s Energy Future session of the 79th Annual Midwestern Legislative Conference. Because the conference involves senators and government representatives from 11 states and four provinces, Moe highlighted the importance of collaboration between the U.S. and Canada; and specifically, Saskatchewan with its uranium deposits.  

Canada Post workers vote to reject latest contract offer

Unionized workers at Canada Post have voted to reject the Crown corporation's latest contract offer.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers said Friday that 68.5 per cent of urban mail carriers who voted were against the deal, while their rural and suburban colleagues were 69.4 per cent against.

The offer included wage hikes of about 13 per cent over four years but also added part-time workers that Canada Post has said are necessary to keep the postal service afloat.

The union had urged the roughly 55,000 postal service workers it represents to reject the proposal.

Saskatchewan takes top spot in mining investment among provinces

Saskatchewan is the top province for mining investment, according to the latest data taken from an annual report on the mining industry in the country. Fraser Institute's Annual Survey of Mining Companies ranked Saskatchewan first, taking in responses from 350 companies rating 82 jurisdictions around the world. 

The 2024 report also placed Saskatchewan in seventh place globally, saying that policy and regulatory perception carried it to its spot.

RCMP foil a pair of drone drug deliveries to Sask Penitentiary

A pair of high-tech drug drops at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary was foiled by Saskatchewan RCMP. The seizure of drugs and the delivery drone has also resulted in the arrests of three individuals following separate investigations in Prince Albert.  

In early July, Saskatchewan RCMP’s Prince Albert Crime Reduction Team (CRT) received a report of a potential delivery of drugs to the Saskatchewan Penitentiary by drone. 

A half million cigarettes seized near Swift Current

Police seized 500,000 illicit cigarettes at a stop near Swift Current.

Saskatchewan RCMP's Roving Traffic Unit was making what they called a proactive patrol on July 15, 2025 near Swift Current.

Police say they pulled over a vehicle on Highway #1, which was carrying the cigarettes, approximately 5 kgs of illicit cannabis and approximately 292 grams of cocaine.

They arrested 63-year-old Colette Ripper from Calgary, AB.

The RCMP noted that Ripper claimed to be travelling from Alberta to Saskatchewan.

Ministry of Highways lays out $53 million in southwest paving

The Ministry of Highways held a press conference in Swift Current, discussing investments into the local highway infrastructure.

During the meeting, it was announced that more than $53 million has been invested in southwest Saskatchewan highway projects. Of that total, $12.2 million has gone into the maintenance and upgrading of 25 kilometres of the Trans-Canada Highway east of Swift Current. This also includes five culverts to the west of Swift Current, near Waldeck, as well as paving work out towards Herbert.
