Canada Post and union meeting delayed until next week due to mediator availability

A meeting between Canada Post and the union representing 55,000 postal workers has been delayed until next week due to the availability of federal mediators, the company says.

The two sides, which were set to meet Friday, will now meet on Aug. 20.

It's been two weeks since members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers rejected the employers' latest offers in a majority vote.

After more than a year and a half of negotiations, the two sides met with federal mediators earlier this week before agreeing to meet with each other.

Federated Co-operatives recently purchased the remaining shares in six agricultural retail outlets owned and operated by the Blair Family Group of Companies.

Quorum releases final report for the 2024-25 crop year

The Federal Government's grain monitor, Quorum Corporation has released the stats for July 28-July 31, 2025 - the last week of the 2024-2025 crop year. 

According to the report, country stocks dropped to 2.31 million metric tonnes, utilizing 44 per cent of country elevator space. 

Total western port terminal stocks dropped to 1.1 million metric tonnes, using 57 per cent of the working capacity.

Women’s softball and box lacrosse wind down at Summer Games

Women’s box lacrosse and women’s softball events came to an end for Team Saskatchewan, which featured players from Moose Jaw. 

In the consolation game for women’s box lacrosse, Saskatchewan dropped a 3-2 loss to Manitoba. Saskatchewan’s box lacrosse team included Moose Jaw’s own Kyler Pladson. 

Meanwhile, Team Saskatchewan finished in eighth place in women’s softball after a 4-0 loss to PEI on Thursday. 

Four out of five Last Mountain Lake beaches under E. coli advisories

If you're looking to hit the water this weekend, you may want to check the province's Healthy Beaches Public Map before heading out.

While the most recent test results at Buffalo Pound Provincial Park, Danielson Provincial Park, Palliser Regional, and Sask. Landing Provincial Park beaches show that water quality to be suitable for swimming, four of the five locations tested at Last Mountain Lake are under E. coli advisories.

First Rider Program eases jitters for new school bus passengers

Some Moose Jaw children climbed aboard a big yellow bus for the first time this week, but it wasn’t on the first day of school.

Prairie South School Division’s First Rider program, held at Lindale School in partnership with Holy Trinity Catholic School Division, gave incoming kindergarteners and other first-time riders a chance to explore the bus, learn the rules, and go for a short ride before the real thing.

Section of Athabasca Street temporary closing for service line replacement

The City of Moose Jaw is advising residents that that zero block of Athabasca Street West will be temporary closed next week starting on Tuesday. 

Crew will be replacing a service line between the First Avenue Northwest intersection and the north-south alley west of Main Street. The intersection and alley will remain open to north and south bound traffic.
