SGI's Traffic Safety Spotlight for November, as it is every year, is on impaired driving.

SaskPower and SaskEnergy are joining forces to offer incentives for customers to commit to energy efficient products. A program that lasts until November 26 (depending on supplies) offers in-store discounts on items such as specialty LED lightbulbs, LED fixtures, lighting controls and smart thermostats at over 60 retailers across the province.  

Saskatchewan’s wholesale trade is leading the nation according to Statistics Canada. Today’s numbers indicate the province was first in month-to-month growth in Canada for wholesale trade.

“Saskatchewan continues to have the food, fuel and fertilizer our growing world needs,” Trade and Export Development Minister Jeremy Harrison said. “Wholesale trade is another key component to our thriving economy. This work allows us to continue building and protecting the province’s economic future and make us the best place to live, work and raise a family.”

A new parkade on the Regina General Hospital is expected to increase the number of parking stalls by 686.

Construction is underway on the new parkade, which is being built in the northwest portion of the existing visitor lot.

The SGI Traffic Safety Spotlight for August was fixed once again on distracted driving. The Crown insurer reports in its latest release that the Regina Police Force have a valuable asset in catching those who aren’t paying attention behind the wheel.  

For years, Saskatchewan Polytechnic campuses have been composed of a central facility and satellite buildings for some of its programs throughout the cities they reside in. Now, the campus in Saskatoon will have all its programs housed in a brand new, centralized location. The Government of Saskatchewan announced a new, state of the art complex will be developed at Innovation Place on the University of Saskatchewan Main Campus. The two post-secondary institutions are entering into a partnership with the government, who is planning on a $200 million injection of funds.  

Maple Bugs have become more pervasive in Southern Saskatchewan during the fall-like weather, but they are also making an appearance in some parts of East-Central Saskatchewan.

Maple bugs have definitely been the talk of Moose Jaw over the last few weeks, as large swaths of them have begun to attach themselves inside and outside of people's houses, garages, Manitoba Maple trees and everything in between.

With drought-stricken areas of the province susceptible to wildfires, the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation (SWF) and the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association (SSGA) are asking hunters to take extra precautions in high-risk areas as the hunting seasons get underway, especially where ATVs and other vehicles may be involved.

A decision on the fate of the truck driver held responsible for the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus crash remains pending after a Federal court judge reserved his decision on Jaskirat Singh Sidhu’s deportation. 

In 2019, Sidhu was sentenced to eight years following his plea to dangerous driving causing death and bodily harm. The April 2018 crash resulted in the deaths of 16 people and injuries to 13 others.
