A beautiful day to kick off the 2022 Matiowski Farmers’ Market season!
The Kenora Matiowski Farmers’ Market returned for its 17th year on Wednesday, June 15.
A fan favourite event, the Market runs under the Whitecap Pavillion all summer and features over 100 local and regional vendors weekly. This year, the Market will run from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm every Wednesday until September 28.
Dryden firefighter named Chief in Red Lake
The Municipality of Red Lake has hired Captain Dexter Hupe of the Dryden Fire Service to be the community’s new Fire Chief.
Hupe joined the Dryden Fire Service in March of 2018 as a firefighter in the city’s Work Experience Program and was hired full-time in January 2020 as a Training Officer before being promoted to Captain by 2021.

MPs rush over 150 amendments to streaming bill; Senate says it won't be pressured
MPs have been forced to rush through over 150 amendments to the online streaming bill to meet a deadline imposed by the government, prompting accusations of secrecy and legislative bungling.
But senators have signalled they will not be pressured to speed up consideration of the bill, claiming they have thwarted government ploys to push it through the upper house.
The online streaming bill, which the government rushed through the Commons heritage committee on Tuesday, is now subject to a pre-study by the Senate committee on transport and communications.

Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Marc Miller said Wednesday Pope Francis's upcoming trip to Canada remains unchanged at the moment, but the pontiff's health is an "extreme concern."
Miller's comments come after the Vatican announced last week the 85-year-old Pope would reschedule an upcoming trip to Africa to avoid interrupting therapy he is undergoing for his knee.
Two charged after two-year search; Killers, remains still not found

More rain, storm activity expected for the area
Environment Canada says more storm activity in northwestern Ontario is expected to bring more high winds, rain and possible hail again to the region later today.
Environment Canada Meteorologist, Gerald Cheng, says Tuesday’s storms in the area brought 20.9 mm of rainfall at the Kenora Airport, the majority of this month’s overall total of 30.6 mm.

Kenora Salvation Army Food Bank moves to "supermarket model"
The Kenora Salvation Army Food Bank opened its doors yesterday, this time using a “supermarket model.”
The Salvation Army has operated a food bank in Kenora for years now, but before now, they have always given premade food boxes to those in need. With the recent move of the thrift store, they now have the room to allow people to “shop” for what they need.
