City of Kenora approves $185,000 for Coker Road repairs
Kenora City Council approves $185,000 in expenses to repair Coker Road.
Kenora City Council held a Special Council meeting on Friday to discuss a new budget amendment that would see funding pulled from the JM Roads Reserve Fund to repair and raise the height of Coker Road just east of Kelly Road.
Masking to stay at Kenora hospital
Despite mask requirements ending in healthcare settings across the province, leadership with the Lake of the Woods District Hospital says their staff continue to see COVID-19 circulating within the community, so mask requirements will remain in place at the hospital for the time being.
With mask mandates still in place, residents are reminded that staff will continue to:
- Screen all patients, clients and visitors for symptoms of COVID-19,
- Require all individuals entering the hospital to wear a mask,
- Require all visitors to show proof of vaccination,

Bobby Ivan Junior Langlois December 27, 1970 – June 4, 2022 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Bobby Ivan Junior Langlois, who left this world on June 4, 2022. Bobby is predeceased by his nephew Tanner Lindstrom, grandparents Edward Sr. and May Williams, uncles Ralph, Claude, Eddie Jr. and aunt Eileen Ogemah. Bobby is survived by his mother Irene Williams, father Floyd Gibbins (Sonny), sister Leona Williams, niece Jerica Rane, great niece Elexsiya Lindstrom and father Robert Langlois (Wendy). He will also be missed by many cousins and friends.

Investigation underway after train derailment near Caddy Lake
A CP intermodal train derailed west of the Manitoba/Ontario border over the weekend.
It happened at around 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the train derailment near Caddy Lake.
Canadian Pacific Railway reports that no dangerous goods were involved, and that they had mobilized teams to respond to the site and handle recovery operations.
In a statement issued, the rail company says there were no injuries.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau again tests positive for COVID-19
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has tested positive for COVID-19 for a second time.
"I feel OK, but that’s because I got my shots," Trudeau said Monday on Twitter.
"So, if you haven’t, get vaccinated — and if you can, get boosted. Let’s protect our health-care system, each other, and ourselves."
Trudeau said he will be following public health guidelines and isolating.
He was scheduled to appear at a garden party for Liberal party donors in Ottawa on Monday evening.
NWHU studying possibility of safe injection sites in NWO
The Northwestern Health Unit is looking into the possibility of creating safe injection sites across the region to help prevent opioid-related overdose deaths and the spread of infectious disease within our communities, as well as to increase access to social supports and treatments for individuals in need.
City responds to Keewatin Medical Clinic backlash
The City of Kenora has released a statement regarding their interest in divesting the Keewatin Medical Clinic.
The City of Kenora released a public Expression of Interest (EOI) document in April of 2022, expressing their desire to possibly divest the Keewatin Medical Clinic building. Early in the 2018-2022 term of Council, the City administration was directed to explore divestment opportunities of certain municipal properties.
Kenora resident asks public to consider slowing down on the waterways
One Kenora resident is asking boaters to use caution when driving in areas with flooded shorelines.
The region has experienced historic flooding this year and as a result, many shoreline property owners have taken to creating protective walls made out of sandbags to try and combat the rising water levels.

The Lake of the Woods Women's Walleye, Lynda Richardson Memorial tournament has wrapped up for another year.
Teams took to the waters on Saturday where some teams had the option of entering the tournament with or without a driver.
