Longtime friends value volunteering together for Mission Aviation Fellowship
Back in 2022, Bob Giesbrecht and Randy Reimer travelled to Cavango, Angola, with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) to construct an airstrip that would give locals better access to essential supplies and healthcare. Knowing how much of a difference it made in many peoples’ lives, they returned earlier this year to offer further aid.
Giesbrecht and Reimer grew up on the same Steinbach street. Little did they know that their friendship, and the games they played as children, would one day provide a lifeline for tens of thousands of people half a world away.

Big changes are underway for a longtime fixture in the community of Portage la Prairie.
After 31 years in business, Debbie and Dean Dubois of Dino’s Appliance and Mattress Centre are passing the ownership torch on to fellow Central Plains locals Marissa and Brent Gertridge of Austin, MB.
“It’s time to move on,” Dean and Debbie share. “To enjoy retirement with our families, grandchildren, and friends.”
Excitement growing for Grunthal Motocross Race Weekend
The Grunthal Motocross (GMX) Race Weekend is quickly approaching, an event the team, riders, and fans are all highly anticipating.
The races start at 8:30am on Sunday, August 25 at the Grunthal Motocross track, with open practice for the riders on Saturday, August 24 from 10 to 3.
The races will be divided into two rounds – one in the morning and one in the afternoon – with riders from various classes hitting the track. A 1-hour intermission will take place around noon, where spectators can grab a meal from the two food trucks on site.

Not a day goes by when the Shippelt family isn’t thinking about powersports. Or revving their own dirt bikes. Or providing ATV sales and service to everyone else. For these owners of S5 Powersports in Rocky Mountain House, they’re enthusiasts first and dealers second.
“We used quads back when I was a kid growing up on the farm,” recalls S5 owner Wes Shippelt. “When I got a bit older, I got into dirt biking and have been racing bikes for the last 20 years. It’s our day-to-day, our work as well as our recreation.”
