Warriors end big week with loss in Winnipeg on Sunday

Winnipeg, MB — One bad break swung the momentum and the Moose Jaw Warriors couldn’t recover on Sunday in Winnipeg.

The Warriors ended up losing 6-0 to the ICE at the Wayne Fleming Arena to drop the second game of their two-game weekend set.

“Last night, we showed that we can play with this team and played a really good game, and tonight, I thought the energy was there, but it was a lack of execution,” Warriors assistant coach Scott King said.

Moose Jaw battled Winnipeg in a tight game on Saturday, falling 3-2 in a shootout during a back-and-forth affair.

Warriors pull off overtime win in Saskatoon on Wednesday

Saskatoon, SK — The Moose Jaw Warriors pulled out a gutsy road win in Saskatoon on Wednesday night.

Max Wanner scored the overtime winner to give the Warriors a 5-4 win over the Blades at SaskTel Centre, sweeping their home-and-home set and giving Moose Jaw four straight wins.

“It was a good team overall effort, sometimes you have those nights where you get outshot and you need your goalie to stand tall and tonight he did,” Wanner said after the win.

Connor Ungar made 39 saves as the Warriors were heavily outshot 43-17 on the night.

Warriors strike first in home-and-home against Blades

Moose Jaw, SK — The Moose Jaw Warriors landed the first strike in a midweek home-and-home set against the Saskatoon Blades.

Moose Jaw pulled off a hard-fought 3-1 win over Saskatoon on Tuesday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

“We had to work for it,” Warriors assistant coach Gord Burnett said. “We had a lot of nice looks tonight we weren’t able to score on, but they did too, so both teams did a good job in their zone.”

Warriors finish weekend on a high note in Brandon

A four-goal second period was enough for the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday night.

Moose Jaw scored four times in the middle frame on its way to a 4-3 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings at Westoba Place.

“We were on it, we looked good right from the start, we were hunting pucks down, we created lots of zone time,” Warriors assistant coach Scott King said.

Ryder Korczak, Ben Riche, Eric Alarie and Brayden Yager did the damage for the Warriors in the second.

Warriors secure big win over Portland on Friday

Connor Ungar stole the show once again for the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night.

The 20-year-old netminder made 42 saves to propel the Warriors to a 4-2 win over the Portland Winterhawks at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

“He’s been incredible all season, he’s got a calming demeanor, a calming influence over the group,” Warriors assistant coach Gord Burnett said.

Ungar has now won 20 games this season, one shy of his career-high, and he’s made 40 saves in four of those wins.

“He makes all the saves he should and some he probably shouldn’t,” Burnett said.

Yager, Unger crack NHL Central Scouting’s midterm rankings

Brayden Yager and Jackson Unger are well on their way to hearing their names called in the 2023 NHL Draft.

The Moose Jaw Warriors’ duo cracked NHL Central Scouting’s midterm rankings, released on Friday.

Yager comes in ranked fifth among North American skaters after originally earning an ‘A’ rating in the preliminary rankings earlier this season.

Warriors edged by Rebels in tight Wednesday battle

Red Deer, AB — Two of the top-four teams in the Eastern Conference went toe-to-toe over 65-plus minutes of hockey on Wednesday.

The Warriors lost a tight 4-3 game in a shootout to the Red Deer Rebels at the Peavey Mart Centrium.

“You had to earn every inch out there tonight, it was take checking and both goalies played really well,” Warriors assistant coach Scott King said.

“Both teams had looks in the three-on-three to win it, it was a back-and-forth game, but it was a hard-fought game for sure.”

Warriors fall in Edmonton on Tuesday

Edmonton, AB — The start to the Moose Jaw Warriors’ two-game road trip to Alberta didn’t go as planned.

Moose Jaw lost 3-2 to the Edmonton Oil Kings on Tuesday night to kick-off its stretch of four games in five nights.

“[Frustrating] is a very good way to describe [the game],” Warriors assistant coach Gord Burnett said after the loss.

“Edmonton might not have many wins, but they work hard and they’re a young group that’s trying to get better and you’ve got to show up every night and against every team in this league.”

Warriors cruise past Thunderbirds on Saturday

The Moose Jaw Warriors once again rose to the occasion against one of the top teams in Canada.

Moose Jaw handed the top ranked Seattle Thunderbirds a 6-2 loss at the Moose Jaw Events Centre on Saturday night.

“When you’re playing good teams, you have to be at your best and we certainly were,” Warriors assistant coach Scott King said. “We played three really solid periods.”

Coming off a tough shootout loss against Calgary on Friday, the Warriors bounced back in a big way, striking for four goals in the first period and rolling from there.

Warriors fall to Calgary in tight game

Connor Ungar made 43 saves, plus three more in the shootout, but it wasn’t enough on Friday night.

The Warriors lost 2-1 in a shootout to the Calgary Hitmen in a back-and-forth, playoff type game at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

“Both teams were playing hard, it was a big game for the standings and it could have went either way,” Warriors captain Denton Mateychuk said.

The loss puts the Warriors just one point ahead of the Hitmen for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
