Yager reassigned by Jets to Warriors

Moose Jaw, Sask. – Brayden Yager is on his way back to the Moose Jaw Warriors.

The star forward was reassigned by the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League to the Warriors after a strong showing at their training camp over the past few weeks.

Yager had a goal and two points in two NHL preseason games with the Jets.

The 19-year-old forward returns to Moose Jaw after posting 35 goals and 95 points in 57 games last season while helping lead the Warriors to the organization’s first WHL Championship.

Moose Jaw, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors look for a sweep of their weekend home-and-home set with the Regina Pats on Sunday afternoon in the Queen City.

Moose Jaw is coming off a 4-2 win over Regina at the Hangar in downtown Moose Jaw on Friday, earning their first win of the season.

It was a three-goal second period that propelled the Warriors to the win over the Pats.

Warriors forward Lynden Lakovic said the team got to their identity in that middle frame.

Warriors double up Pats to open weekend on Friday

Moose Jaw, Sask. – Despite giving up the opening goal in the first minute of the game, the Moose Jaw Warriors skated to their first win of the season on Friday night.

Moose Jaw scored three times in the second period and beat the Regina Pats, 4-2, at the Hangar to kick-off a weekend home-and-home set between the Trans-Canada rivals.

“It feels really good… it was a hard-working effort by our group,” Warriors forward Brayden Schuurman said after the win.

Moose Jaw, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors and Regina Pats will lock horns for the first edition of the Trans-Canada Clash this season on Friday night.

The Warriors welcome the Pats to the Hangar in downtown Moose Jaw for the first half of an extended weekend home-and-home set, which will see the two sides meet in Regina on Sunday afternoon.

“It doesn’t matter what time of year, it’s always fun playing Regina,” Warriors head coach Mark O’Leary said.

Warriors drop back-and-forth Home Opener to Prince Albert

Moose Jaw, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors put a bow on their 2024 WHL Championship season on Saturday night at the Hangar.

For the first time in franchise history, the Warriors raised a championship banner to the rafters ahead of their 2024 Home Opener with a big crowd on hand to see the historic moment.

When it came to the battle on the ice, Moose Jaw couldn’t finish the job, falling 6-4 to the Prince Albert Raiders to open the season with back-to-back losses this weekend.

Warriors can’t hold onto lead, fall to Brandon in season opener

Brandon, Man. – The Moose Jaw Warriors put together a strong 40 minutes, but couldn’t finish the job against the Brandon Wheat Kings in the season opener.

The Warriors led 2-1 after two, but Brandon scored four unanswered goals, including two into an empty net, in the third period to knock off Moose Jaw 5-2 on Friday night at Westoba Place.

Moose Jaw, Sask. – For the first time in franchise history, the Moose Jaw Warriors will have the target of defending champions on their back.

The Warriors will open the defence of their 2024 WHL Championship on Friday night against the Wheat Kings in Brandon.

“It will be exciting,” Warriors head coach Mark O’Leary said. “The players have put the work in, they’re prepared and just looking forward to getting things started for real.”

Warriors double up Broncos to close out the preseason

Moose Jaw, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors put together a strong 60-minute performance to close out the preseason, topping the Swift Current Broncos, 4-2, at the Moose Jaw Events Centre on Saturday night.

“This was definitely our most complete game we’ve had so far in this preseason,” Warriors forward Owen Berge said.

Berge scored for the second straight night to help the Warriors to the bounce back win heading into the regular season.

Warriors stumble in Swift Current on Friday

Swift Current, Sask. – A rough minute early in the first period put the Moose Jaw Warriors behind the eight-ball and they couldn’t recover.

The Warriors dropped an 8-2 game to the Broncos in WHL preseason action on Friday night in Swift Current.

“We were a little bit late to check and just tracking details, we were in good spots, but we were just a half-second late to get the job done,” Warriors assistant coach Curtis Pereverzoff said on the difference in the loss.

Warriors trim preseason roster by three players

The Moose Jaw Warriors have trimmed their preseason roster to 26 players after reassigning three players on Monday.

After opening the preseason schedule against the Regina Pats over the weekend, the Warriors have reassigned defenceman Cohen Williams, along with forwards Preston Hoppe and Maxon Johnston.

Williams, the Warriors’ 2024 second round pick, made his WHL preseason debut on Saturday against Regina in Assiniboia. He will join the Okanagan Hockey Academy’s U18 prep team.
