Saginaw, Mich.—Moose Jaw struck first, but the London Knights’ explosive attack overwhelmed the WHL Champions in Monday night action at the 2024 Memorial Cup presented by Dow.
The OHL-winning squad’s three-goal second period was the difference-maker in a 5-4 victory for London.

Saginaw, Mich.—The Moose Jaw Warriors battled back, but couldn’t overcome a tough start in their opening match of the Memorial Cup.
Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Brayden Yager scored twice and added an assist in the 5-4 loss to the host Saginaw Spirit.
Moose Jaw struggled to get pucks on net in the opening period, while netminder Jackson Unger was standing on his head- and his side, back, and in the splits, for that matter- at the other end of the ice.

Saginaw, Mich. – The wait is over for the Moose Jaw Warriors as the organization will finally play their first game at the 2024 Memorial Cup, presented by Down, on Friday night.
The Warriors will hit the Dow Event Center to take on the host Saginaw Spirit in the opening game of the Canadian Hockey League championship.
“It’s going to be electric in the building, we understand that,” Warriors forward Jagger Firkus said. “It’s everyone’s first Memorial Cup for us, it’s going to be a crazy atmosphere in there and we’re just looking forward to it.”
Warriors Captain Mateychuk named 2024 WHL Playoffs MVP

Moose Jaw, Sask.- Moose Jaw Warriors defenceman Denton Mateychuk has been named the 2024 WHL Playoffs Most Valuable Player.
The award is presented to a player deemed to have made the strongest contribution to their team throughout the WHL Playoffs, as voted by members of the media.
The Warriors Captain led his team to its first Ed Chynoweth Cup in franchise history with a four-game sweep of the Portland Winterhawks in the 2024 WHL Championship Series.
Moose Jaw Warriors capture first WHL Championship in franchise history

Moose Jaw, Sask.— For the first time in franchise history, the Moose Jaw Warriors are WHL Champions.
The Warriors clinched the Ed Chynoweth Cup with a 4-2 win over the Western Conference Champion Portland Winterhawks in Game 4 of the 2024 WHL Championship Series presented by Nutrien.
After two periods of back-and-forth action, the Warriors rallied in the third frame by rattling off two goals en route to their fourth win at the Championship Series.
Warriors move one win away from Ed Chynoweth Cup after Game 3 OT win
Moose Jaw, SK – Brayden Schuurman blew the roof off the Hangar 2:20 into the first overtime period.
Schuurman batted home the winner to give the Moose Jaw Warriors a 4-3 win over the Portland Winterhawks in Game 3 of the 2024 WHL Championship Series, presented by Nutrien.
The win moves the Warriors just one win away from clinching the first Ed Chynoweth Cup in franchise history.
Warriors take two in Portland, lead WHL Championship 2-0
The Moose Jaw Warriors went into the Veterans Memorial Coliseum and took both games to open the 2024 WHL Championship Series, presented by Nutrien.
The Warriors took a 2-0 series lead on the Portland Winterhawks with a 5-1 win in Game 2 on Saturday night.
“Just real proud of the effort,” Warriors head coach Mark O’Leary said. “We talked all day about what we were going to expect from Portland, a hard push, second one at home here and I just thought we came ready to go.”
Warriors secure first win in WHL Championship Series on Friday
The Moose Jaw Warriors struck first in the 2024 WHL Championship Series, presented by Nutrien.
Matthew Savoie scored with 3:02 to go in the third period to lift the Warriors to a 3-2 win over the Portland Winterhawks in Game 1 at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Friday night.
“It always starts with work, we talk about races-and-battles and that’s what it was,” Warriors head coach Mark O’Leary on the win.
Firkus captures the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy
Moose Jaw, SK – Jagger Firkus has become the second Moose Jaw Warrior to win the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy as the Western Hockey League’s Player of the Year.
The Seattle Kraken prospect was announced as this year’s winner during the WHL Prospects Draft Show on Thursday.
“It’s an honour to receive the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy,” Firkus said. “I want to congratulate the other four division winners, thank you to the staff and my teammates, without them this doesn’t happen, and thank you to my family as well.”
Moose Jaw Warriors moving on to WHL Championship Series
The Moose Jaw Warriors are four wins away from making history.
Moose Jaw knocked off the regular-season champion Saskatoon Blades 3-2 in overtime in Game 7 to capture the Eastern Conference Championship and move on to the WHL Championship Series for the second time in franchise history and the first time since 2006.
Lynden Lakovic scored the series-clinching goal less than a minute into the extra frame.
Ethan Semeniuk broke through with his first goal of the postseason to open the game, while Saskatoon’s Easton Armstrong leveled the match in the second period.
