RCMP arrest alleged hijacker at Vancouver airport after airspace shut down

RCMP say they've arrested the pilot of a small aircraft that was allegedly hijacked from Victoria and flown to Vancouver International Airport, where other flights had to be temporarily halted.

RCMP in Richmond, B.C., say in a statement that a report came in just after 1 p.m. Tuesday about a Cessna that "had been hijacked" and was on its way to Vancouver.

Police say the "sole occupant" of the plane was arrested after it touched down.

Stubborn core inflation in June likely cements calls for Bank of Canada rate hold

Underlying inflation remained stubbornly hot in June, leading financial markets and many economists to firm up calls for a third straight interest rate hold from the Bank of Canada later this month.

Statistics Canada said Tuesday that the annual pace of inflation accelerated to 1.9 per cent in June, up from 1.7 per cent in May and largely in line with economists’ expectations.

Prices didn't ease much at the gas pumps last month, the agency said, and higher prices on motor vehicles and other durable goods also drove inflation higher.

Colossians 2:9-10

"For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority."

Understanding and Obedience

Isaiah 50:5

Our greatest struggle is not in the realm of understanding the will of God; it's in the realm of obeying the God whose will it is.

To be painfully honest, when you and I look back at our lives, we do not find ourselves puzzled and mystified about God's will nearly as much as we find ourselves stubborn and resistant to the One directing our steps.

Our problem isn't that we don't know; our problem is that we do know but aren't willing to follow through.

That's the basic struggle of the Christian life.

Council plants vision for the future with urban forest strategy

With a growing urban canopy already enriching life in Grande Prairie, Council has approved the Urban Forest Strategy to help protect and expand the city’s green spaces for future generations.

The strategy sets a clear long-term vision for the care and enhancement of trees and natural spaces across the city by providing a coordinated framework for planting, maintenance and stewardship while maximizing environmental, social and economic benefits.

Grande Prairie RCMP and Grande Prairie Police Service respond to stolen semi-truck driving erratically

On July 13, 2025, just before 11 p.m., Grande Prairie RCMP and GPPS responded to reports of a stolen fuel truck and trailer. Officers arrived on scene and located the vehicle, who fled. RCMP and GPPS members monitored the progress of the semi and noted that it was starting to drive erratically and was becoming a danger to the public. Officers were authorized to stop the semi, with Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS) joining to assist, and use Tire Deflation Devices (TDD) whenever safe to do so. TDDs were deployed and were eventually successful.

City of Dawson Creek exploring options for alternative water supply

Dawson Creek was not built around a major water source, unlike many other cities that developed near lakes or large rivers.  Over the years, this has led to ongoing challenges in maintaining a secure and sustainable water supply, especially during dry seasons. With the unprecedented drought conditions experienced in 2023 and continuing into 2025, the pressure on our water system has only intensified.
