Winnipeg police investigate after man found critically injured in North End
Winnipeg police are investigating after a man was found unresponsive in the city's North End.
The man, who has been identified as 26-year-old Breydon Henry Cadieux-Kwiatkowski of Winnipeg, was found suffering from severe trauma in the 600 block of Boyd Avenue at around 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Officers provided the man with emergency medical care before paramedics arrived. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and has since succumbed to his injuries.
The Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.
Wildfire smoke and thunderstorm threats grip southern Manitoba
Environment Canada has an air quality warning in effect as the smoke from wildfires hangs heavy in the air on Friday, with the potential for some more severe weather moving through.
"There's a warm front that is more or less stalled out right now along the international border," says Kean Kokolsky, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada (EC). "With that, the smoke has been transported out of the north back towards us."
Friday morning, already the smoky air lies thick in southern Manitoba, causing issues with visibility on top of polluting the air.

We were then transported to the Caribbean Pavilion at the Centre Culturel Franco-Manitobain, 340 Provencher Boulevard. The Cruiser finished off its night at the Spain Pavilion at the Notre Dame Recreational Centre, 271 Ave. de la Cathedrale.

The Classic 107 Cruiser visited the Tamil Pavilion at the Burton Cummings Community Centre, 960 Arlington Street, on Wednesday evening for the 6:45 p.m. show.
The show was dynamic and exhilarating, featuring dances rich with history and culture. The cultural display showcased traditional artifacts and explained the history behind each dance.
After the Tamil Pavilion, the Cruiser jetted off to the Pavilion of Portugal at the Portuguese Association of Manitoba, 659 Young Street, for the 8:15 p.m.
Manitoba extends state of emergency as wildfires continue to burn
Manitoba has extended its provincewide state of emergency until Aug. 22 as wildfires continue to burn across the province.
The state of emergency, declared under the Emergency Measures Act, was reinstated on July 10 for a 30-day period. It had previously been in place from May 28 to June 23 before being lifted when fire activity subsided.
Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure’s Emergency Management Organization said Thursday that the extension is necessary due to the ongoing wildfire situation.
