Canadian politicians condemn shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk

Politicians in Canada are speaking out about political violence after Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, was shot and killed Wednesday at a Utah college event.

Prime Minister Mark Carney offered condolences to Kirk's family and friends.

"There is no justification for political violence and every act of it threatens democracy," he said on social media.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said Kirk's shooting must be strongly denounced.

Saskatchewan Young Ag Entrepreneurs have hired a new general manager


The Saskatchewan Young Ag Entrepreneurs have hired Kaitlyn Kitzan as the organization's new general manager.

Kitzan, a grain and cattle producer with extensive experience in agriculture, business development, and leadership, moves into the role.

She comes in with a clear understanding of the organization and its goals, having previously served on the SYA Board of Directors.

As General Manager, she will oversee SYA's programming, partnerships, and member engagement.

Kitzan says she's honoured to step into this role with SYA.

Saskatchewan marks Youth Safety Education Day to promote safer workplaces

Saskatchewan has proclaimed Sept. 10 as Youth Safety Education Day to raise awareness about workplace health and safety for young people entering the labour force.

The initiative aims to provide education and leadership for youth up to age 25, with the goal of building a stronger culture of safety across the province.

Saskatchewan marks Living Organ Donation Week with awareness campaign

Saskatchewan has proclaimed Sept. 7 to 13 as Living Organ Donation Week to celebrate donors and recipients and encourage more residents to consider giving the gift of life.

The week is being recognized with a provincewide campaign featuring stories of living donors and transplant recipients on social media, digital billboards, buses, airports and movie theatres in Regina and Saskatoon.

Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill said the initiative highlights the province’s commitment to organ and tissue donation.

Rosetown hosting Kindersley, Delisle for Saturday football jamboree

Normally they have to wait until the "fifth quarter", but on Saturday in Rosetown the junior football squads for Kindersley Composite School, Delisle Composite School, and Rosetown Central High School will have the field to themselves during a special jamboree. 

After watching their seniors go through two weeks of the season the younger players will have a chance to show what they have learned. Four teams in total will be on the field, two Rosetown Royals squads joining one set of Kindersley Kobras and Delisle Rebels.

Kindersley court sees firearms and threat charges, multiple case adjournments

A farmer from southwest Kerrobert has pleaded guilty in Kindersley Court on September 9, to attempting to possess a prohibited device under the Saskatchewan Firearms Act.

Court heard the man tried to purchase a suppressor for a rifle he used on his farm to protect his dog from coyotes. The device was intercepted by the RCMP before it reached him.

He was sentenced under the Firearms Act’s alternative sentencing program. As part of his sentence, he must retake the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and pay $500 to the Saskatoon Wildlife Federation.

Macklin EMS raises $14K with skydive for Teddy Bears Anonymous

Two members of Macklin EMS took a leap of faith to raise money for a children’s charity.

Paramedics Terri Murrell and Jennifer Arlitt joined the Jump for Charity event over the weekend, skydiving for the first time to support Teddy Bears Anonymous, an organization that provides stuffed animals to children in hospital.

Murrell said the conditions for her first jump couldn’t have been better.

“What a beautiful morning for a jump,” she said. “I’ve never jumped before, but as far as weather goes, it couldn’t have been more perfect. Everything just went so smooth.”
